Heading into game one of the Stanley Cup Finals, it seemed as though one thing was clear, and that was the fact that the Lightning were vastly more experienced in this Colorado Avalanche team. But you couldn’t tell that from game one, as the Avalanche not only looked like they belonged there, but looked as if they had been there before. The Avalanche showed that being the faster team was important, as they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Gabriel Landeskog, and Valeri Nichuskin. The Lightning’s experience came into factor the rest of the game as they calmed the storm and eventually tied it, taking the game to overtime 3-3.

But just 1:23 into OT Andre Burakovsky netted one to give Colorado a 4-3 victory in Game 1 on Wednesday night and put the Avs up in a series that’s shaping up to be a classic. Burakovsky also is one of only two Colorado players with Stanley Cup rings. Expect the Lightning to understand that the Avalanche will try to come out firing once again and be able to play a better game that they’re not trying to play catch up the whole time.
