Last Ditch Effort

The Tampa Bay Lightning absolutely needed to win game four. For them, the series needed to head back to Colorado tied two games a piece, but instead, after a dominant overtime showing by the Avalanche, they go back home with a 1-3 series deficit, and Colorado has complete control of these Stanley Cup Finals. It has been 21 years and 15 days since the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup. They have three chances to do it again, starting with Friday night at Denver.
The Lightning have a few areas of confidence they can dwell upon. Game four was an unlucky game for them as Colorado simply got lucky on a few fortunate bounces that won them the game. The first Avalanche goal went off Nathan MacKinnon’s skate and the tying goal in the third period bounced off Andrew Cogliano’s leg. Tampa Bay played well for three periods, but simply looked slow and tired in the OT period. Vesalevsky had a heck of a game, but it seemed like he had to make brilliant save after brilliant save in OT, and eventually Kadti was able to net the game winner despite some confusion. The Lightning haven’t faced an elimination game since their first round matchup against the Mapleleafs, and they won that one so expect them to put up a fight.
For our expert Stanley Cup Finals Game 5 prediction, take the over of 6 goals.
