Edmonton Oilers at Los Angeles Kings: Game 6 Prediction, Player Props, & Betting Tips

By Sam Batz

oilers vs kings

The Stanley Cup Playoffs continue on Saturday, April 29th with Game 6 of the First Round series between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings (10:00 PM EST, TBS). The Oilers are leading the series 3-2 after beating the Kings 6-3 in Game 5 on Tuesday, April 25th. Edmonton has now won back-to-back games against Los Angeles, and are now just 1 win away from advancing into the next round. The Kings are home for Game 6, but are +1.5 goal underdogs with a moneyline priced at +145. The Oilers are 1-1 on the road against the Kings this series, but are -1.5 goal favorites with a moneyline priced at -176.

The Edmonton Oilers (-1.5; ML -176)

The Oilers entered the postseason as the top scorers in the NHL. Edmonton lit the lamp an incredible 325 times during the regular season, and against the LA Kings, the Oilers have scored 20 total goals (4.0 goals per game). They are tied for the 2nd most goals per game in the playoffs, but are allowing 3.20 goals per game (16 total goals) to the Kings. The Oilers need to tighten up their defense if they want to make a deep run into the playoffs. Edmonton has an 83% chance to advance to the Second Round, and if they can prevent the next game from going into overtime, the Oilers will win Game 6, and thus, the series.

The Los Angeles Kings (+1.5; ML +145)

The LA Kings were eliminated by the Oilers in the First Round last season, but they took the series to 7 games. The Kings will need to do that once again in order to stay alive, meaning Game 6 is a must-win for Los Angeles. The Kings trail 3-2 in the series, but the two games they won came during OT. In the regular season, LA was 10-10 in overtime matches, but against Edmonton, are 2-0 in the playoffs. The Oilers have the highest Power Play percentage (57.1%) and the highest number of shots (186) of any team in the playoffs, meaning the Kings need to be more disciplined on defense, which is easier said than done against the NHL’s best offense.

Oilers vs. Kings: Player Props

Connor McDavid (Oilers Center): Anytime Goal Scorer (-135)

McDavid had a superstar season for the Oilers. He led the NHL in goals (64), assists (89), and points (153). In the playoffs, he has just 2 goals (both coming in Game 3) but has 6 assists for 8 points, the 2nd-most on the team. McDavid is the centerpiece of Edmonton’s offense. Everything flows through him, and as a result, he leads the team in shots (24), and will have plenty of opportunities to bury one in the back of LA’s net in Game 6.

Anze Kopitar (Kings Center): Over 0.5 Points (-160)

Kopitar is tied with Adrian Kempe for the most points in the playoffs for LA. They each have 7 points, but Kopitar averages more minutes (22:39 TOI/G) and will have more chances to record a point (goal or assist) in Game 6. Kopitar has 2 goals and 5 assists, and in a do-or-die game for LA, I expect him to add to that total. Kopitar has been fantastic on the Power Play, and the Kings will need him to be a playmaker when the chance arrives. I expect Kopitar to go over 0.5 points.

Oilers vs. Kings: Game 6 Prediction

Take the Edmonton Oilers to win Game 6 and advance to the Second Round. The extra rest between Games 5 and 6 means both teams will come out fresh. It will be a close game, but the Oilers have star-power on their side, and their world class Center’s, McDavid and Draisaitl, will be rested and ready to pour it on. Edmonton is finally getting into their offensive groove after posting 11 goals in the last 2 games of the series, and the Kings are exhausting themselves just trying to keep up. The Oilers are now favored to represent the West in the Stanley Cup Finals, and on Saturday night, they will end the Kings line with a Game 6 victory.

Prediction: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-176)
