Carolina Hurricanes at Florida Panthers: NHL Conference Finals Game 4 Analysis, Prediction, and Betting Tips
Sam Batz
The Stanley Cup Playoffs have almost reached the Final round, but on Wednesday, May 24th the Carolina Hurricanes will look to keep their season alive in a must-win Game 4 against the Florida Panthers (8:00 PM EST, TNT). The Panthers hold a commanding 3-0 lead over the Hurricanes, and while it may seem like a one-sided matchup, it’s actually been a thrilling series. Carolina lost all three games by just one goal, and Games 1 and 2 were decided in overtime. The Hurricanes just haven’t been able to catch a break, mostly due to Florida’s stifling defense that limited Carolina to just 3 goals in 3 games. The Panthers offense on the other hand, has doubled Carolina’s output, and if they win on Wednesday, the Panthers punch their ticket to the Finals.
The Carolina Hurricanes (+1.5; ML -105)
After a decisive 4-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils in the Conference Semis, the Carolina Hurricanes entered the Conference Finals as the favorites to reach the Stanley Cup Finals. The Hurricanes recorded an impressive 24 goals against the Devils in the previous round, but against the Panthers, Carolina has hit a wall. The Canes have a +9 goal differential in the playoffs, but against the Panthers, they are -3 and 1 loss away from elimination. It’s been a frustrating series for Carolina, who led in shots per game in every matchup, but the Canes can’t get the puck to hit the back of the net. Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, and Jesper Fast each have 5 goals for the Canes, but Carolina trails the Florida Panthers by 13 player points, suggesting a lack of depth could be responsible for the Hurricanes demise in the Conference Final.
The Florida Panthers (-1.5; ML -115)
The Florida Panthers continue to win despite entering the Conference Finals as the underdogs for the third straight series. The Panthers are 11-4 (73.3%) this postseason and need just one more win to qualify for the Finals for the first time since 1996. Florida was never supposed to be here, but after eliminating the greatest NHL team in history, the Panthers are proving they deserve to be here, and that beating Boston was no fluke. Florida has done their best work on the road, posting an 8-1-0 away record this postseason, but with all the momentum on their side heading into a crucial Game 4, the Panthers are looking strong. It’s been a miraculous postseason for Florida, but they aren’t done yet, as the Hurricanes are in desperation mode and looking to avoid the sweep at all costs.

Hurricanes vs. Panthers: Game 4 Prediction
Take the Carolina Hurricanes to win Game 4 and stave off elimination for another day. The Panthers may be up 3-0 in the series, but the Hurricanes have been right there with them in every game. Florida’s gameplan to hold back and invite pressure has worked wonders, but the Hurricanes are recording 30+ shots on goal per game, and the Panthers are not reciprocating. In Game 3 Florida posted just 17 shots on goal, and they still won. The Panthers have been incredibly lucky this series, and in Game 4, that luck is going to run out. The Hurricanes need to continue to out work Florida when it comes to goal scoring opportunities, but they also need to take a breath and stop playing erratically in front of goal. If Carolina can pivot to quality over quantity in their shot selection, they will win Game 4.
Prediction: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline (-105)
