Minnesota Wild at Dallas Stars: Game 1
By Sam Batz
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are here, and on Monday, April 17th the Minnesota Wild will take on the Dallas Stars in Game 1 of their First Round divisional matchup (9:30 PM EST, ESPN 2). The Wild finished the season 5 points behind the Stars, and in 4 matchup during the regular season, Minnesota went 2-2-0 against Dallas. The Stars are -1.5 goal favorites with a moneyline at -140. The Wild are +1.5 goal underdogs with a moneyline priced at +120. Minnesota wins just 31.6% of the time as underdogs on the road, while the Stars win 57.9% of the time as the favorites at home, giving them a slight edge over the Wild. Dallas and Minnesota are two evenly matched sides, and this series is promising to be highly entertaining.
The Minnesota Wild (+120)
The Wild were not underdogs very often during the regular season, but on Monday, they will face an exceptional opponent, but one whom Minnesota is quite familiar with. The Wild finished the season with a record of 46-25-11 and 103 points, which put them at 3rd place in the Central Division, and 6th place in the Western Conference. Minnesota is in the playoffs for the 4th straight year, but have been bounced in the First Round in the last two campaigns (2021 & 2022). They will look to avoid the early exit this time around as they go for the franchises first Stanley Cup Title, although their odds to see the Finals are not great. Regardless, the Wild need to get past Dallas first, but Minnesota has the talent to make this a close series.
The Dallas Stars (-140)
The Dallas Stars went 47-21-14 (108 pts) and ended the season in 2nd place in the Central Division, and in 4th place in the West. Dallas is back in the playoffs for the second consecutive season, but like Minnesota, the Stars were bumped in the First Round last year. Dallas has a 57% chance to make it to the Second Round, but it will be a grueling series against Minnesota. Neither side wants to get bounced early, but Dallas has the edge because of their superior goal scoring abilities. The Stars scored 42 more goals than the Wild, and will lean heavily on their offense to get the win in Game 1.
