Devils Host Flyers For Divisional Rivalry Showdown | Flyers vs Devils | OSB
Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils
By Sam Batz
The Philadelphia Flyers hit the road once again for a date with the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, Feb. 25th, in New Jersey’s Prudential Center (7:00 PM EST, NHLPP/ESPN+). The Flyers return home, after a four game road trip where they went 1-3, for a meeting with the Montreal Canadiens the night before they face New Jersey. The Devils will have a day to rest before facing Philadelphia, and unlike the Flyers, the Devils have enjoyed a nice respite from travel, having played their last three matchups at home. The division rivals face each other for the fourth time on Saturday, and while New Jersey tops Philadelphia in the standings by quite a large margin, it is the Flyers who hold the series lead against the Devils.
Philadelphia Flyers Breakdown
Philadelphia sports have absolutely exploded this year. The Phillies made it to the World Series, the Eagles were back in the Super Bowl, and the 76ers are primed for a deep postseason run come April. Unfortunately, the Flyers were not privy to the success of Philadelphia sports, and have completely fallen short of the city’s expectations. The Flyers are 23-26-10 with 56 points through 59 games, and according to FiveThirtyEight, have essentially no chance to make the playoffs. The Flyers are Philadelphia’s weird cousins no one wants to talk about but will quietly support because they’re family.
The Flyers are 7th in the Metropolitan Division (25 points behind New Jersey) and 14th in the Eastern Conference (15 points out of last place). Philly is 3-5-2 in their last 10 games, scoring 2 or fewer goals in 7 out of those 10 matchups, for a goal per game average of just 2.20. Flyers Right Winger, Travis Konecny, leads the team in player points (54), and is the only Flyer with 20+ goals (27) on the season. Philly’s Center, Kevin Hayes, leads the team in assists (31) and has the second most player points (48). The Flyers average less than 30 shots per game (29.5) and need Konecny and Hayes to create more opportunities if they want to beat the Devils.
New Jersey Devils Breakdown
The Jersey Devils are rolling this season. They are tied for the second-most wins in the league (38) with the third-most points (81). The Devils are 38-15-5 through 58 games, 2nd in the Metropolitan Division, and 3rd in the Eastern Conference. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10, beating the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 on Thursday. According to FiveThirtyEight, the Devils have nearly guaranteed themselves a spot in the playoffs with >99% chance to make it.
New Jersey is led by their 21-year old Center, Jack Hughes. Hughes was the No. 1 overall pick in 2019, and the young gun has not disappointed. Hughes is tied for 9th in player points (72), tied for 5th in goals (35), tied for 21st in assists (37), and has scored in 2 out of his 3 matchups against Philadelphia this year. The Flyers have 1 player (Travis Konecny) who has recorded 50+ player points this season, the Devils have 4! New Jersey, with the talent at their disposal, will roll over Philadelphia on Saturday.

Prediction
Bet on the Devils to beat the Flyers. New Jersey is 1-2-0 against Philadelphia this season, but have held the Flyers to just 2 goals in the last 2 matchups. If the Devils can get at least 3 goals, then they will almost certainly win. Philadelphia is averaging 2.60 goals for, and 4.6 goals against, in their last 5 games, while the Devils are averaging 3.40 goals for, and 3.2 goals against over the last 5 games. The Devils create more chances, score more goals, and play better defense than the Flyers, which makes them a strong pick for Saturday night’s matchup.
- Prediction: New Jersey Devils Moneyline and the Under.
