Defenses Improve?
Game one in this series was everything us hockey fans wanted to see. It was a thriller that included 14 goals scored and showed that both these teams deserve the right to compete for the Stanley Cup championship. JT Compher scored twice, Cale Makar had a goal and two assists and the Avalanche held off the Oilers 8-6 on Tuesday night, in a game where it seemed that defense was almost optional. There was so much goal scoring that at halftime, even the Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky, who we all know as the greatest scorer of all time, was asking for the teams to play a little more defense, ironically.
One doubt many people had coming into this series was whether or not the Edmonton Oilers could keep up with the high scoring Colorado Avalanche, who ranked 4th in goals per game in the season. It’s safe to say that after game one that doubt had been put to rest, as although the Oilers lost, scoring six goals against this Avalanche team will be more than enough to win games. There are many question marks on both sides of this matchup in game two, as Colorado goaltender Darcy Kuemper remains questionable for game two, along with Edmonton’s Mike Smith, and a lot of members on the defensive front, so expect another shootout.
For our expert Edmonton Oilers versus Colorado Avalanche prediction, take the over of seven goals.
