Dallas Stars at Vegas Golden Knights: NHL Conference Finals Game 2 Analysis, Prediction, and Betting Tips
Sam Batz
The Conference Finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs are past the openers, and on Sunday, May 21st the Dallas Stars and the Vegas Golden Knights are set to square off in Game 2 (3:00 PM EST, ESPN+). Vegas took Game 1 with a 4-3 overtime victory over Dallas, taking full advantage of their home-court privileges. The Stars are now 0-3 in Game 1 this postseason, but they are unbeaten in Game 2. The Golden Knights remain the favorites to win the series, but if Game 1 taught us anything, it’s that this series is going to be extremely tight. Game 2 is going to be another back-and-forth matchup, but if Dallas can jump out to an early lead, they will be in a strong position to even the series.
The Dallas Stars (+1.5; ML +100)
The Stars suffered a tough loss in the Western Conference Finals opener on Friday. Dallas scored the first and last goals of regulation, but then gave up the winning goal to the Golden Knights two minutes into the overtime period. It was a crushing defeat for a Dallas side that played well all night, recording 36 shots and committing just 1 penalty, but it wasn’t meant to be. Dallas’ top-three players, Roope Hintz (22 pts), Jason Robertson (14 pts), and Joe Pavelski (12pts), all made meaningful contributions and combined for 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists), but the Golden Knights protected the fortress well. But the Stars should feel good about how they played on Friday; they exposed the cracks in the Golden Knights armor, and if Dallas can push the pace and pepper the goal like they did early in Game 1, it will be a long night for Vegas.
The Vegas Golden Knights (-1.5; ML -121)
The Golden Knights secured Game 1 in chaotic fashion, but a win’s a win, and Vegas is now 9-3 (75.0%) in these playoffs. Vegas finished the season as the top-team in the West, and after winning Game 1 over Dallas, the Knights now have the best odds to win the Stanley Cup Trophy (+180). According to FiveThrityEight, Vegas is also favored to win Game 2, and take a commanding 2-0 lead before heading into Dallas. Jack Eichel leads the Knights with 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) followed closely by Mark Stone’s 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists). Eichel and Stone play an integral role for Vegas, but what’s made the Golden Knights so successful is their depth, which they will try to use to their advantage in Game 2 after an exhausting series opener.

Stars vs. Golden Knights: Game 2 Prediction
Take the Golden Knights to win Game 2 and jump out to a 2-0 lead over Dallas. The Stars are undefeated in Game 2 during these playoffs, but every series is different, and Vegas has been fantastic at home. The Golden Knight faithful show up every game ready to rock T-Mobile Arena, and that energy has clearly fueled the Golden Knights to victory more than once. Dallas played well in Game 1, and although they went 3-0-0 against Vegas during the regular season, momentum is everything, and right now the Golden Knights are riding high. Game 2 will be another well fought contest between two immensely talented teams, but I’ll take the Golden Knights at home once again.
Prediction: Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline (-121)
