Carolina Looking To Secure Division Title | Hurricanes vs Panthers | OSB
Carolina Hurricanes at Florida Panthers
By Sam Batz
In a collective season finale, the Florida Panthers will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, April 13th (7:00 PM EST, NHLPP/ESPN+). Both the Panthers and Hurricanes clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which means this matchup is largely ceremonial. The series is tied 1-1-0, with each side winning at home in a shutout victory. The Panthers are favored with the moneyline priced at -120, while the Hurricanes are the underdogs at +100. It may be the season finale, but both Florida and Carolina are looking to end the year on a high-note, and enter the postseason with some momentum.
Hurricanes Division Title On The Line (ML +100)
The Carolina Hurricanes are 51-21-9 (111 pts) and with a win on Thursday, they clinch the Metro division title. The Canes lead the division by 1-point, but if they lose and the New Jersey Devils win, Carolina will fall to 2nd in the division. It’s not a severe drop, but it would change their First Round matchup. The Hurricanes are 4-5-1 (9 pts) in their last 10 games, scoring 22 goals but allowing 24 against. Carolina has known they will be in the playoffs for a few weeks and are resting some of their better players in preparation, this is why they are not favored in Thursday’s matchup with FLorida, even though the Canes lead the Panthers by 19 points in the standings.
The Florida Panthers Are Playoff Bound (ML -120)
It was a tough campaign, but the Florida Panthers clinched a spot in the playoffs as a Wildcard. The Eastern Conference was extremely competitive this season, but after beating the Caps on Saturday, and with the help of a Sabres loss on Tuesday, the Panthers are in the postseason for the 4th consecutive season. Florida went 6-3-1 (13 pts) in their last 10 games, but are coming off a 1-2 loss against the Maple Leafs on Monday, snapping a 6-game winning streak. The Panthers are in, but there’s plenty at stake when it comes to seeding, and Florida will absolutely want to win Thursday’s season-finale.

Hurricanes vs. Panthers: Game Changers
Carolina Hurricanes
- Martin Necas leads the Hurricanes with 71 points (28 goals, 43 assists) but recorded just 1 point (0 goals, 1 assists) against Florida in two games this season
- Carolina rotates between three Goaltenders, all of whom have a winning record, average fewer than 3 GA/G, and have a 90% SV% or better
- 21 different players scored at least 1 goal for the Hurricanes, 11 scored 10+ goals, 3 scored 20+, and 1 (Sebastian Aho) scored 30+
Florida Panthers
- Matthew Tkachuk leads the Panthers with 108 points (40 goals, 68 assists) and averaged 1.20 points per game (6 goals, 6 assists) in his last 10 matchups
- Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky leads the Panthers with 50 games played in goal, he is 24-20-3 (T-15th) and averages 3.07 GA/G (33rd)
- 25 different players scored at least 1 goal for the Panthers, 12 scored 10+ goals, 4 scored 20+, 3 scored 30+, and 2 (Matthew Tkachuk & Carter Verhaeghe) scored 40 or more goals this season
Hurricanes vs. Panthers Prediction
Take the Florida Panthers to win the season-finale on Thursday. Carolina is a great team, and it will be a close game, but I like the Panthers here. They know how to score goals, and the last time they faced the Hurricanes at home, Florida shut them out with a 3-0 victory. Plus, the Panthers have a lot more to stake, since if they lose and the New York Islanders win on Wednesday, Florida is looking at a date with the Boston Bruins in the first round, a team no one wants to face this postseason. The Panthers will enter the season-finale ready to win, and I like their odds.
Prediction: Florida Panthers Moneyline (-120)
