Calgary Looks to Avoid Third Straight Loss

The Calgary Flames will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in their next matchup, and after winning the season opener 5-3 over the Jets, the Flames have lost back-to-back games. Calgary is now 1-1-1 (3 pts), recording 9 goals for and 11 goals against. The Flames take on the Sabres the night before, and will have little rest before facing Columbus.

The Blue Jackets are 1-2-0 (2 pts), recording 7 goals for and 11 goals against. Last season, Columbus was the worst team in the Metro, and while the addition of 3rd overall pick Adam Fantilli will certainly boost the Blue Jackets outlook, Columbus remains a lower-tier team.

I like the Calgary Flames in this one. In a side-by-side comparison, the Flames have 26 points (goals & assists), while the Blue Jackets fall short with 20 points. Calgary is a more versatile team, with 8 different players having scored at least 1 goal. Columbus has seen just 5 players score, and rely heavily on 30-year old veteran Boone Jenner to score most of the goals. Calgary is a revamped team behind their new head coach, Ryan Huska, and the Flames will look to redeem themselves after a disappointing 2022 season.
