Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens

Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens

A historic season comes to an end on Thursday, April 13th when the Montreal Canadiens host the newly crowned greatest team of all time, the Boston Bruins (7:00 PM EST, NHLPP/ESPN+). The 2022/23 Bruins are now the NHL’s best team in the league’s history after recording the most-wins in a single season (64) and breaking Montreal’s 1976/77 single-season points record of 132. It’s fitting that Boston plays the Canadiens in the season finale, as it will represent a passing of the proverbial torch from one champion to the next. Unsurprisingly, Boston is favored and the Canadiens are the underdogs. The Bruins moneyline is priced at -280, while Montreal’s is set at +250.

The Bruins Aren’t Done Yet (ML -280)

With a record of 64 wins, 12 losses, and 5 OTL’s, the Boston Bruins are officially the greatest hockey team in history. Not only is that the greatest single-season record, but the Bruins recorded 133 points, surpassing the 1976 Montreal Canadiens 47 year-long points record of 132. It’s been a tremendous season for Boston, and while the players and coaches celebrated breaking a monumentally historical record, they will also tell you the records don’t matter unless they lift the Cup at the end of the season. The Bruins are clearly the team to beat, and with the best-odds to not only make it to the finals, but to win it all, the pressure to do well in the playoffs is enormous. The Bruins may be able to say they are the greatest team in regular season history, but unless the Stanley Cup Trophy comes home to Boston, the Bruins can’t say they were the best team of the year.

The Canadiens Draw The Short Straw (ML +250)

The Montreal Canadiens were a shadow of their former glory this season. The franchise with the most Stanley Cup titles (24) is now last in the Atlantic, and 15th in the East, with a record of 31-43-6 (68 pts). Now, as if to kick them while they’re down, Montreal must face the best team in the league, who just surpassed them in the history books, as some sort of cruel act of fate. The Canadiens are missing the playoffs for the second-consecutive season, which means after Thursday’s, their season is over. They, like the rest of us, will be relegated to the couch to watch as Boston attempts to cap off the greatest season in NHL history with the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup Trophy.

Bruins vs. Canadiens Prediction

Take the Boston Bruins to win on Thursday. Boston will want to end their incredible season on a high-note, and enter the playoffs on an 8-game winning streak. The Bruins are 2-0-0 against Montreal and will have no issues completing the sweep. After breaking Montreal’s 47-year old points record, Boston knows all eyes will be on them for their season finale. The Bruins will put on a show for their fans and cap-off this historic season with their 65th win, officially setting the points record at 135.

Prediction: Boston Bruins Moneyline (-280)
