Avalanche Face First Challenge
There’s no question that the Colorado Avalanche are a force to be reckoned with. They currently are the favorites to win the whole Stanley Cup Finals at +168. The simple logic behind this is the fact that they had the second most points in the NHL throughout the seasonIn, and rank Top 10 in goals scored per game, shots taken per game, power play percentage, and goals allowed per game. On top of that, in the first round they were the only team to sweep their opponent and did so in dominant fashion, outscoring the Predators 21 to 9 in the series, and sending them home before they even knew what hit them.
Now the Saint Louis Blues are no write off. They won their first round matchup against the Wild 4 games to 2. After winning Game 1, they dropped the next two games, falling behind 2-1 in the series, but then overcame adversity and won 3 straight to send Minnesota packing. I expect this game to be a shockingly close game as the Blues will actually benefit from having a more contested first round series, as the Colorado Avalanche will show up high from their sweep, and get a jolt of playoff reality in Game 1.
