WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS AT OREGON DUCKS | COLLEGE FOOTBALL | OSB
Pac 12 College Football Betting — Washington State Cougars at Oregon Ducks (11/13)
We are not going to tell you that the Oregon Ducks have clear sailing on their way to the four-team college football playoff. But we will tell you that there are not a lot of obstacles in their path.
There is always the possibility they could get leapfrogged. We have seen that, and we’ll probably see that again before all is said and done. The Ducks are fifth in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls, but in the most important rankings of all, the college football playoff rankings, they are #3, and that would put them squarely in position at the moment.
On Saturday they will have to navigate their way around a team that’s been playing good football of late. The Washington State Cougars have responded very positively after their coach was fired, and they come into this Saturday night matchup with some favorable history behind them. BetOnline customers can see this game at 10:30 p.m. Eastern, as it emanates from Autzen Stadium in Eugene.

Oregon has lost only once, to Stanford, and that’s not a great credential to have. But the Ducks did pin a defeat on Ohio State at Columbus (as a 14.5-point dog, mind you) in the second game of the campaign. That counts for an awful lot, considering that the Buckeyes now sit right behind them in the playoff rankings. They had a dominant effort, at least from a statistical standpoint, last time out, as they beat Washington 26-16, rushing for 329 yards and holding the Huskies to only 166 yards of total offense.
Washington State had to endure the firing of head coach Nick Rolovich, along with four of his assistants, because they refused to take be Covid vaccine, something that is required of all state of Washington employees. There was a lot of controversy and bad blood surrounding this decision, and lawsuits are pending. The Cougars could have gotten all caught up in this and folded the tent. Instead, they have rallied in honor of their former coach, whose assistant Jake Dickert is now the interim man.
Washington State has covered six straight games, and immediately after Rolovich was fired they took BYU, a ranked squad, to the brink before losing but covering as an underdog.
In the Pac 12 college football betting odds posted on this game at BetOnline, Oregon is laying almost two touchdowns:
Oregon Ducks – 13
Washington State Cougars + 13
Over 57.5 points -110
Under 57.5 points – 110
Anthony Brown, a transfer from Boston College, is the quarterback for Oregon, and he’s been more than adequate, if not spectacular. He’s thrown for 1904 yards and been intercepted only four times. Travis Dye is the versatile offensive weapon, leading the team with 820 rushing yards on a 6.1- yard average and also leading the team in receptions. Brown is a mobile quarterback, rushing for 428 yards and seven touchdowns. Oregon is +8 in the turnover category, which helps. For Wazzu, this is a little different team then the one Mike Leach steered a couple of years ago. For one thing, they are running the ball quite a bit more. Of course, it’s not a lot compared to the rest of the teams in FBS football, as their rushing play percentage ranks only 118th at 44.3%. But when you compare it to the 22% rushing rate from Leach’s last season, these guys are practically landlocked. Jayden De Laura, who got himself out of some legal trouble before the season began, has taken a leadership position in the weight of Rolovich’s departure. He’s thrown for 17 touchdowns on the season, and Calvin Jackson and Travell Harris have combined to be on the receiving end of 103 of his passes. Most of the rushing element is provided by Max Borghi, who has averaged a nifty 5.1 yards per attempt.
We mentioned that WSU has covered six games in a row, and they are just a couple of points from being on a five-game winning streak right now. They have also proven to be a very profitable proposition in the ongoing series against Oregon, covering ten of the last 11 meetings. What’s happened with the Ducks is that even though they don’t run the score up on opponents the way Chip Kelly and Mark Helfrich used to, they have still been paying premium prices at home, and evidence of that is their 0-5 ATS mark.
We are going to look for Washington State to hang tough here, as they keep things within the 13- point margin. They’re capable.
