Week 5 of the NFL regular season kicks off this Thursday with the Chicago Bears visiting the Washington Commanders in our nation’s capital. The Commanders are favored in this one by 6 points with a moneyline priced at -265. The Bears will look to upset Washington, but in their last 10 meetings against the Commanders, Chicago is 2-8.
The Chicago Bears (+6; +215)
The Bears had high hopes coming into the 2023 season, but through the first 4 weeks, it’s not looking good in Chicago. The Bears are 0-4, making them one of two NFL teams who have yet to win a game, the other being the Carolina Panthers. In week 3, the Bears showed some life offensively, scoring a season-high 28 points behind an incredible performance by QB Justin Fields, who went 28/35 for 335 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Unfortunately, Chicago’s defense couldn’t match their Quarterback’s energy, as the Bears gave up a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter, which ultimately lost them the game. Chicago is still searching for their first win of the season, but against a commanding Washington defensive front, the Bear’s will struggle to move the ball.
The Washington Commanders (-6; -265)
The Commanders are even at 2-2 but are coming off back-to-back losses in the last 2 weeks. Washington nearly took down the Philadelphia Eagles for the second-straight season, but lost 31-34 in overtime. Despite the loss, it was a good showing for a Washington side normally not known for their offensive efficiency. It was Commanders QB Sam Howell’s best game of his young career, and he’ll be looking to build on an impressive performance against a struggling Chicago defense that’s allowing 267.8 passing yards and 34.3 points per game. The Commanders have an excellent chance on Thursday night to get their season back on track, as they face a Bear’s defense that ranks last in the NFL.

Bears vs. Commanders Prediction
Take the Washington Commanders to win on Thursday Night Football. The Bears are beyond bad defensively. Chicago has no pass rush to speak of, recording just 2 sacks through 4 games. Last week, the Bears gave up 6.5 yards per play, and are allowing a 58.9% 3rd down conversion rate. The Commanders aren’t a high-powered offense, but as Sam Howell gets more comfortable under center, Washington will improve week by week. The Commanders averaged 4.9 yards per play last week against a strong Philadelphia defense, and will have no problem moving the ball against Chicago’s laughable defensive front.
