OK, let’s get to our Super Bowl MVP Picks.

When it comes to the Super Bowl MVP, it’s all about offensive players and, more specifically, it’s all about the quarterbacks.

In Super Bowl history, only 10 non-offensive players have won the MVP in the 55 previous Super Bowls, with nine defensive players and one special teams player taking home the hardware.

Of those 45 offensive players that have screamed “I’m Going to Disney World” and walked home with the Pete Rozelle Trophy, 31 of them were quarterbacks. In the last 10 years, eight have been QBs, and three of them were Tom Brady, with, of course, two different teams.

So for our two MVP picks for Super Bowl 56, let’s ride the trends and pick a QB, while also giving you a non-offensive player to consider at juicy odds.

For the QB, we’ll go with Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, since we really can’t imagine a scenario where if the Bengals win, Burrow doesn’t get the MVP. Burrow is the true super star of this team and their success really hinges on his play so if you think Cinci is going to pull off the upset on Sunday, you might as well bet Burrow to win the MVP at +225 odds as well as taking the points.

On the other sideline, we do see a scenario where the Rams could win this game and Stafford would not win the MVP, even though he is the favorite at +120. The Rams have a number of other players who could have big games and take home the award, but we’re going to take a flier on defensive lineman Aaron Donald at 16-to-1 odds.

Donald is one of the most dominating defensive players in NFL history and is well-liked by his teammates, opponents and the media. We all saw the Tennessee Titans sack Joe Burrow nine times in the divisional round and that was no fluke as Burrow was sacked 51 times this season, the most in the NFL. The Rams finished third in the NFL with 50 sacks and if Donald can get three or more sacks and LA wins a low-scoring game without many of its offensive players putting up big numbers, this could be a steal at 18-to-1 odds.

So, for our Super Bowl 56 MVP Picks, let’s play Joe Burrow at +225 and Aaron Donald at 16-to-1.
