Super Bowl LVII: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles

By Sam Batz

chiefs vs eagles

Super Bowl LVII is finally upon us. The biggest game of the year kicks off Sunday, Feb. 12th at 4:30 PM (MST) in Arizona’s State Farm Stadium. The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are this year’s finalists and will compete in the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. The Chiefs are in the Super Bowl for the third time in the last four seasons, while the Eagles are back for the second time in six years. Historically, Kansas City is 2-2 in their 4 Super Bowl appearances, and Philadelphia is 1-2 in the three times they’ve played in the big game. Both the Chiefs and Eagles were the best teams in their respective conference, and now look to cap off their amazing seasons with the NFL’s top-prize, the Lombardi Trophy.

The Super Bowl is certainly all about the players, teams, coaches, and fans, but also provides numerous wager possibilities from just a single, stand alone game. There are hundreds of ways to bet on the Super Bowl, from the coin-toss to the winner of the game. Some bets are fun, some are silly, and some have a much better chance than others to provide you with the best possible payout. Here, I will highlight some of the best bets to make for Super Bowl LVII.

Super Bowl LVII Player Props

Quez Watkins, Eagles WR, Under 1.5 Receptions

Eagles All-22 Film Review: There is upside with Quez Watkins - Bleeding Green Nation

A surprisingly popular bet this Super Bowl is whether Eagles wide receiver Quez Watkins will catch a pass or not. A majority of people seem to think Watkins will catch just one pass, as his odds are -170 to go under the 1.5 reception mark. Watkins has yet to catch a pass this postseason, and with the number of pass attempts limited due to the success of Philadelphia’s run defense, the odds are not looking good for Watkins to get more than a few targets, let alone come down with the pass. I agree with the majority here, and predict Quez Watkins will go under his 1.5 receptions prop.

Jalen Hurts, Eagles QB, Under 235.5 Passing Yards

Jalen Hurts winning the Super Bowl would be monumental and unprecedented - Bleeding Green Nation

Jalen Hurts came in second place, behind Patrick Mahomes, in this year’s MVP race with 193 AP votes. It may have been a disappointing result, but the 24-year old Philadelphia quarterback has plenty of time left in his career for individual accolades. This year, Hurts is focused on the ultimate prize, a Super Bowl victory. Jalen Hurts recorded 246.7 passing yards per game during the regular season, but in the playoffs, Hurts is averaging 137.5 passing yards. In the Eagles two postseason matchups, Hurts has thrown for a total of 275 yards, while the Philadelphia running game has gone for 416 yards. The Eagles have been leaning heavily on their rushing attack this postseason, with Hurts attempting just 24.5 passes per game, a drop from his 30.6 attempts per game during the regular season. The Eagles torched both of their postseason opponents because of their running game however, I expect them to stick to it against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. I predict Jalen Hurts will go under his 235.5 passing yards prop.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs QB, Over 2.5 Passing Touchdowns

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes 'transcending the game;' Andy Reid the 'quarterback whisperer,' NFL expert says | Fox News

This year’s regular season MVP, Patrick Mahomes, is the key to a Kansas City victory. Mahomes led all starting quarterbacks in total yards (5,250), yards per game (308.8), and passing touchdowns (41). Over his two postseason games, Mahomes is averaging 260.5 passing yards per game, and has thrown 2 touchdown passes in both matchups. The Chiefs have yet to score a rushing touchdown this postseason, and throw more passes in the red zone than any other team. Some are asking questions about how well the Chiefs receiving corps matches up against an Eagles defense that allowed the fewest passing yards per game (179.8) this season, but with Patrick Mahomes under center, the Chiefs offense is nearly unstoppable. Even if the Eagles blacket the Chiefs top-receiving options, Mahomes is always able to find the open guy, no matter who it is. Mahomes threw a touchdown pass to 11 different receivers this season, and will likely have the ball in his hands for a majority of the Chiefs plays on Sunday. I predict Patrick Mahomes will go over his 2.5 passing touchdowns prop.
