Big Game in Duval
The Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Florida to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Field on August 20th at 7:00 pm. This will be the second preseason game the Steelers play and the third game for the Jaguars. Last week the Steelers won their game against the Seattle Seahawks on a last-second touchdown. Unfortunately, the Jaguars lost their game last week against the Cleveland Browns. Both teams would benefit from a victory in this game but it seems the Jaguars desperately need this win as they would fall to 0-3 in the preseason if they lose. During preseason, players are still fighting for a position on the final 52-man roster, so expect to see everyone at their best. Caesars Casino & Sportsbook has the match result odds at -150 Jacksonville and +130 Pittsburgh. Additionally, the over/under total points for the game is set at 42 with the over and under both being -110. New users will receive a Risk-Free Bet of up to $1500 on their first wager.
The Jacksonville Jaguars need their players to play better if they want a chance at winning this game. Last week against the Browns, the Jaguars started the game with quarterback Trevor Lawrence playing the first three offensive drives. Lawrence and the offense were able to score during every drive, kicking two field goals and scoring a touchdown. This gave the Jaguars a 13-0 lead against the Browns to start the second quarter. After a great start, the team allowed the Browns to score 24 unanswered points, ultimately losing 24-13. After Lawrence was taken out of the game, quarterbacks, Jake Lutton and C.J. Beatherd took over for the team. They each threw an interception and had quarterback ratings below 50. The defense was able to force two turnovers, but it wasn’t enough for the Jaguars to win the game. It is unknown if the starters will play in this game, but it is important to note that the Jaguars had complete control of the game when their starters were playing.
The Pittsburgh Steelers headed into last week’s game against the Seahawks with the hopes of being able to narrow down their quarterback competition. They now enter this week with the same concern as all three of their quarterbacks played well. Quarterbacks, Mitch Trubuisky and Mason Rudolph played the first half of the game. They each threw a touchdown and had quarterback ratings above 100. Kenny Pickett started the second half and played the rest of the game for the Steelers. During his time on the field, he was able to throw for two passing touchdowns and had a quarterback rating of 132.6. His second touchdown secured the win for the Steelers as the team scored with only three seconds left in the game. The Pittsburgh defense was able to force one turnover and it came at an important time as the field position gained gave Pickett the opportunity to throw his second touchdown. Now against the Jaguars, it will be interesting to see which quarterback separates himself from the rest of the group.
I think the Jaguars will be able to outplay the Steelers and get their first win in the preseason. I think the Steelers will use this game to evaluate the quarterbacks they have and start making a decision as to who will be their week one starter. Should the Jaguars play their starters, they will have similar success to what they had against the Browns. If the majority of the game is played by the backup players then it will be in the favor of the Steelers as their quarterbacks are better than the Jaguars’ backups.
