Two teams heading in completely opposite directions square off tonight in Nashville as the surging 49ers visit the struggling Tennessee Titans.
After a shaky start to the season, Jimmy G and the Niners have won two games in a row and five of their past six to improve to 8-6 overall and into the playoff hunt as they currently own the sixth-best record in the NFC.
It’s been a completely different season for the Titans, who won 8 of their first 10 games of the season, but after losing All-Pro running back Derrick Henry in Week 8, the team has now lost three of its last four games, falling to 9-5 and is now in danger of coughing of the AFC South divisional lead to the Colts.
The major problem for the Titans has been ball security as the team is minus-14 on the turnover ratio in its 5 losses. In fact, overall the Tennessee defense is playing better than most people think. The Titans have held three of their last four opponents to under 200 total yards, but the constant turnovers have placed the defense in some bad spots.
Since Henry got hurt, the Titans have played much more conservative on offense, and as a result, have gone under in four of six games, with an average of just 36 points per game. Also, Tennessee has gone under in six of its last 8 home games with an average of just 40 points per game being scored.
