Saints Season Wins O/U 9.5

The Saints finished the 2020 season going 12-4 and winning the NFC South. Unfortunately, after a win against the Chicago Bears in the playoffs, the Saints fell flat. They faced a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that was on fire and lost, 30-20. The New Orleans Saints season came to a close without much to show for it aside from a divisional title.

Once the season came to a close the Saints lost their most important player, Drew Brees. Now the quarterback position is up for grabs with Jameis Winston looking like the starter. Even with Brees off the team, the Saints are expected to have a relatively strong season. Sportsbooks put their win total odds at O/U 9.5. The question is, which one is the best bet?

Without Drew Brees, What Can We Expect?

For a very long time, the offense of the Saints was led by the future Hall of Famer Drew Brees. Now, for the first time, the Saints will be without the gunslinger that’s led the team into the playoffs and to the Super Bowl. The offense shouldn’t look much different though, and most of the weapons are still there.

They’re also led by one of the most dynamic head coaches in the NFL. Sean Peyton has a method of creating strong offenses and we shouldn’t expect anything less this season. Alvin Kamara, the superstar running back of the Saints, broke records last season. This year, the load will be heavier on him but we can expect him to be up to the challenge.

Odds Are The Saints Won’t Take The NFC South

Considering they’re in a division with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Saints will land second in the division. In 2020, they led the division with a 12-4 record but fell short of a conference title in the end. Without Drew Brees at the helm, the Saints will have to retool their offense. At least for this year, the Saints won’t be marching to the top of the division.

There is a silver lining though as the sportsbooks assume they’ll be able to win around ten games this year. BetOnline has the odds at 9.5, meaning the Saints will need to win at least ten games to hit the over. When we take a look at their schedule for the year, we should be able to determine whether that’s realistic.

Over Or Under 9.5 Games? What’s The Best Bet?

We still have no idea who’s running the offense and how effective it is, so this is a tough bet. The Saints clearly are still a good team, even without Drew Brees but good enough to win 10 games? There are nine games throughout the schedule that we see the Saints losing, giving them an 8-9 record.

Even if they were to win one of the games we have them losing it would bring their record to 9-8. The best bet here for a team under a new quarterback is to take the under, where BetOnline has the odds at 9.5. That gives you a little room for mistakes, which are bound to happen this season.
