Dallas Cowboys (11/7)

The Dallas Cowboys got a pretty fair outing out of Cooper Rush last week against the Minnesota Vikings, as he engineered a late drive to pull out the victory. But it was hardly an imposing effort.

Now this week, BetAnySports customers will see Dak Prescott back in the saddle as they take on the Denver Broncos at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The game time is 1 p.m. Eastern.

Prescott, who is getting over an ankle injury that sidelined him for much of last season, suffered a calf strain against New England and sat through the bye week and through the Minnesota game. But he’s been a full participant in practice, so there’s not a whole lot of concern as to whether he can go.

That is a difference-making element, as he is 73% accurate with 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

CeeDee Lamb, who leads the team with 609 receiving yards, should be able to play for the Cowboys, although he’s been nursing an ankle injury.

Dallas had a near-miss in the season opener against Tampa Bay, in which Prescott threw over 400 yards, but they have won every game since, and are pretty much making a mockery of the NFC East race. At this point, it’s more a matter of whether they could secure the home-field advantage in the playoffs. They have covered every game this season.

Ask for Denver, they started out strong, with consecutive victories over the Giants, Jaguars, and Jets, but many people who were observing them closely understand that it gets a lot more difficult in the NFL than the Giants, Jaguars, and Jets. Facing a tougher part of the schedule, they lost four in a row to Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, and Cleveland, tallying only 54 points in those games. Last week they got by Washington by a 17 – 10 score, but they only totaled 271 net yards.

In the pro football betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Dallas is favored by double digits: f

Dallas Cowboys – 10 (- 115)

Denver Broncos + 10 (- 105)

Over 49.5 points – 105

Under 49.5 points – 105

Teddy Bridgewater won the quarterback battle in training camp over Drew Lock, who was Denver’s latest “quarterback of the future.” Bridgewater is a 70% passer, but he hasn’t been a really big downfield threat, despite averaging 8.7 air yards. The guy he’s going to be looking for is Courtland Sutton, who he’s connected with for 579 yards. But Sutton will encounter a real challenge from Trevon Diggs, who has seven interceptions, two of which he has returned for a touchdown.

What’s also a big concern for Denver is that the Cowboys not only have Prescott, who averages 8.4 yards per attempt, they can also grind things out, as Ezekiel Elliott, who’s got 571 yards and five touchdowns, is complemented very well by speedster Tony Pollard, who seems to be really coming into his own and averaging 5.8 yards per carrying.

Obviously, the question is whether Denver’s defense was a little overrated after those first three wins, and that much is up for debate. But they are a weaker unit this week than they have been previously because they traded All-Pro pass rusher, Von Miller, to the Los Angeles Rams. Miller, a former super Bowl MVP, was going to combine with Brandon Chubb to deform a virtually unbeatable set of bookends pass-rushers, but that plan has been short-circuited.

This is a premium price, without a doubt. But the best hope for Denver head coach Vic Fangio, who is probably on the hot seat around this time, is to dial up some kind of scheme to at least slow Dallas in their trips down the field. This is probably not one of the most favorable situations for them, but inasmuch as only one of their games has topped this posted total, we’re thinking perhaps the most judicious way would be to go UNDER in this situation.
