Sunday’s wild card playoff action wraps things up in the NFC with the 9-7 Philadelphia Eagles going on the road to face the 12-4 Chicago Bears. Game time from Soldier Field is set for 4:40 p.m. on NBC.

Philadelphia at Chicago Game Overview

The Eagles needed help from Chicago (beating Minnesota) to secure the last playoff spot in the NFC and they will now attempt to knock the Bears out of the playoffs in the opening round. A 5-1 straight-up run that included huge wins against the Los Angeles Rams on the road and the Houston Texans at home has Philadelphia thinking upset for Sunday’s tilt. The Eagles have won six of their last eight road games against the Bears SU.

One of the big reasons Philadelphia has a chance to defend last year’s Super Bowl title is the play of Nick Foles at quarterback in place of the injured Carson Wentz. In three previous starts, he has thrown for 962 yards and six touchdowns. Foles tied an NFL record for consecutive completions in a game with 25 against Washington on Sunday after tossing four touchdowns in the Week 16 victory against Houston.

Chicago started to turn things around at the end of October and since then it is 9-1 both straight-up and against the spread on OnlineSportsBet’ closing line. The Bears are 7-1 both SU and ATS at home this season and they have covered the spread in nine of 12 games closing as favorites. The total has stayed UNDER in their last four games.

The big plus in Chicago’s favor as far as making a deep run in the postseason is a shutdown defense that has held opposing teams to a league-low 17.2 points per game. This unit held the Los Angeles Rams to a season low six points on Dec. 9 and it only gave up 10 points in Sunday’s big road win against the Vikings. Second-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky has managed the Bears’ offense rather well this season in the starting role with this side of the ball averaging 26.3 PPG.

It is going to really hard getting a SU win in Chicago, but with Foles at the helm, I have Philly keeping things closer than six points
