PRO FOOTBALL ODDS – CHICAGO BEARS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (9/27)
How mad can the Seattle Seahawks get? We’ll find out, since this is exactly the situation where they should be out for blood. After losing their first two games, both on the road, Pete Carroll’s team returns to the friendly confines of CenturyLink Field as they play host to a Chicago Bears team that is short-handed on offense. This game gets underway at 4:25 PM ET, and the good news for BetAnySports patrons is that they can place wagers even after the opening kickoff, as they enjoy the thrills and chills of Live Betting Extra.
Of course, you have probably heard by now that Chicago is going to be operating without starting quarterback Jay Cutler, who has a hamstring injury. The guy who is being inserted here is Jimmy Clausen, who has not met with a lot of success. Formerly a backup with the Carolina Panthers, Clausen has compiled a record of just 1-9 as a starter, and he had to come off the bench last week when Cutler went down. It was a 48-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, so he had to go up top constantly, completing 14 of his 23 pass attempts with one interception.
Everybody knows how much of an effect the crowd noise in Seattle can have on opposing offenses, and then there is also the factor of Russell Wilson, who has been a sizzling 22-2 in his 24 home starts.
In the pro football odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Seahawks are huge favorites:
Seattle Seahawks -14
Chicago Bears +14
Over 43 points -110
Under 43 points -110
When Clausen takes the field, he is going to be minus one outstanding receiver. Alshon Jeffery, who had matured to the point where he was Cutler’s go-to guy, is being bothered by his hamstring once again, and he’ll have to sit out this game. There is another lame pass-catcher in Eddie Royal, but he’ll certainly play. The focus, as far as Clausen is concerned, might be tight end Martellus Bennett, because this passing attack almost certainly won’t go that far downfield. And Matt Forte will have to remain very reliable; the dual-threat, who set an NFL record for most receptions by a running back last season, is tied for the team lead with nine, and has also tallied 202 yards rushing.
There is the possibility that Seattle will have Kam Chancellor back in the lineup. Chancellor had been holding out for a better contract, but that holdout has just ended, and he participated in practice on Friday. As BetAnySports customers can well imagine, the presence of the physical Chancellor can make it difficult for Bennett to operate in tandem with Clausen.
The Seahawks have their own tight end dilemma, although they are pretty confident of getting it solved. The big acquisition during the off-season was Jimmy Graham, and it has not been the easiest thing in the world to create some magic with him. He’s caught seven passes in the two games, but with little effect. Of course, one must remember that as good as Wilson is, this is not the same as Drew Brees throwing to his former All-Pro target.
