PHILADELPHIA EAGLES AT CHICAGO BEARS – 9/19 NFL BETTING PREVIEW
The Chicago Bears hope to be cooking up some surprises for a raw rookie quarterback on Monday night when they play host to the Philadelphia Eagles at Soldier Field. But when it comes down to it, how “raw” is this rookie, really? That is the question that might be answered sometimes after the 8:30 PM ET kickoff. BetAnySports customers can bet on all of this even after the game begins, as they enjoy real time wagering against dynamic odds through the phenomenon known as Live Betting Ultra.
The Bears lost their opening game to the Houston Texans, and it was disappointing, in that they allowed Jay Cutler to get sacked five times and showed that there is work to do to replace Matt Forte in the backfield. They went kind of limp on the offensive end in the second half, gaining a total of 71 yards.
The Eagles banged out a successful debut for first-year head coach Doug Pederson, and it would not have taken place without a strong effort from a quarterback who was making his first start in the NFL. Carson Wentz was the second pick in the NFL Draft, but the Eagles did not expect to put him into the starting lineup so quickly. Well, now he has everyone in the league, and certainly in the organization, raving about him.
In the Monday night football betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Bears are laying points as the home team:
Philadelphia Eagles +3 (-105)
Chicago Bears -3 (-115)
Over 42.5 points -110
Under 42.5 points -110
Wentz was originally supposed to sit the bench for a while and get acclimated to the NFL, much like the #1 pick, Jared Goff of the Los Angeles Rams, is presumably going to do. Philadelphia had Sam Bradford, last year’s starter, who was going to have the job until such time as Wentz was ready. But that whole dynamic changed when Teddy Bridgewater dislocated his knee, and the Minnesota Vikings had to find a quarterback quickly. They made Eagles management a nice offer for Bradford (both first and fourth-round draft picks) and the decision was made for Wentz to take over right away.
Even though he had missed a considerable part of the pre-season with injured ribs, the rookie had shown the staff enough to convince them that he could get the job done. Wentz, unlike Goff, had been in a pro-style offense at North Dakota State, and that was something that aided him in his adjustment. Against the Browns last week, he went 22-37 for 278 yards and two touchdowns. Most importantly, he did not throw an interception.
BetAnySports patrons probably know that the entire roster has been undergoing something of an adjustment. Chip Kelly, who was fired toward the end of last season, had his own way of doing things, and that included his spread offense that included quick tempo and the absence of a huddle. None of that is present in Doug Pederson’s scheme. And that benefits Wentz.
What the Bears have to look out for when they have the ball is a variety of blitzes that is going to be thrown at them by Philadelphia’s artful defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, who had the Buffalo Bills near the top of the heap defensively a couple of seasons ago, but was not retained as part of Rex Ryan’s staff. He has re-made things around the Eagles, and they will be putting a lot of pressure on Chicago’s offensive tackles, which means Cutler will be under siege once again.
