NY GIANTS AT NY JETS – 8/22/14 FREE PICK AND ODDS | OSB

The two NFL teams based in the city of New York will have another chance to renew their intense rivalry when they go head-to-head this Friday night at the MetLife Stadium, for their third game of the preseason, with both the Giants and the Jets heading into this encounter having won their previous two games. But despite their positive record so far in the preseason, both teams have causes for concern. The New York Jets, who have traditionally been very strong on the defensive side of the ball, have shown some weaknesses in their secondary while the New York Giants are still trying to process and figure out their new offense.

These are the betting odds that have been posted on this 2014 NFL preseason game at BetOnAnySports, your home for the best NFL betting options:

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning should see some more playing time in this third preseason game as he continues to learn a completely new offensive system and trying to familiarize himself with the up-tempo style of play that his new coordinator is trying to implement. After seeing the team’s performances in this preseason, with constant struggles and poor results, both Manning and the Giants head coach Tom Coughlin have already admitted that the system is taking a little bit longer than expected to sink in. Against the Indianapolis Colts last week, the Giants offensive starters played four series and grabbed a total of 38 yards, and it remains to be seen if the team will be able to fully execute Ben McAdoo’s offense when they face the Lions three weeks from now in the first game of the season.

Despite the fact that they grabbed a 25-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last week, all the focus of that game was on the New York Jets defense, particularly on its ineptitude to keep Andy Dalton and the Bengals offense under control. The Bengals quarterback completed all of his 8 passes and threw for 144 yards and a touchdown in just three offensive drives, and Rex Ryan has reasons to be concerned considering the fact that cornerbacks Dimitri Patterson, Dee Milliner and Dexter McDougle all missed that game due to injuries. On a positive note, quarterback Geno Smith, who played the entire first half, completed 10 of his 13 passes for 98 yards, as he continues to improve in his position as starting quarterback.

The Big Apple showdown will provide both teams the opportunity to evaluate their roster and will certainly offer great entertainment for the fans. The Giants, as they continue to improve their offensive system, will try to put the Jets secondary to the test, while Rex Ryan will have his team running the football as much as they can and trying to establish the ground-and-pound style of offense that they love. Given the Giants offensive struggles so far this preseason, expect the Jets to come out victorious of this one and keep their unbeaten record going.

Our Prediction: Jets Win
