NFL ODDS & PREVIEW – DALLAS COWBOYS AT PITTSBURGH STEELERS (11/13)
Well, the Pittsburgh Steelers went to sleep for most of their game against the Baltimore Ravens last week, and they certainly cannot afford to do that against this week’s opponent. The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of an historic run, and they are being led there by two rookies. This much was unexpected, but Dallas, which sports a 7-1 straight-up record, goes after a franchise-record-tying eighth straight victory in this game that begins at 4:25 PM ET on Sunday at Heinz Stadium in the Steel City. It will be televised on CBS, and BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity, even after the opening kickoff, to place wagers in real time through the considerable facilities of Live Betting Ultra.
During the first three quarters of last Sunday’s 21-14 loss to Baltimore, the Steelers had only two first downs and 69 yards from scrimmage. It can be argued that Ben Roethlisberger, who was coming off arthroscopic knee surgery, was a little rusty, as he had only 54 yards through the air five minutes into the final stanza. He came alive, but it was too little and too late. He finished with 264 yards on the afternoon, but there is steadily some discontent with the Steelers, particularly their practice habits, if you want to listen to running back Le’Veon Bell.
With Dallas, everything seems to be in harmony, at least for the time being. Dak Prescott, the rookie quarterback at Mississippi State, has thrown only two interceptions with 8.1 yards per attempt, and he attempts to become one of only three rookies to have led his team to seven straight wins during a season (Roethlisberger, by the way, happens to be one of the others). This comes at a time when Tony Romo has been cleared to practice, so naturally it is fueling speculation as to who will be the quarterback when Romo is healthy enough to play. Owner Jerry Jones has made some remarks, mostly about how he doesn’t necessarily want to upset team chemistry, so one can imagine the Cowboys will ride things out with Prescott for as long as they can.
In the NFL odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, Pittsburgh is favored at home:
Pittsburgh Steelers -3 (-105)
Dallas Cowboys +3 (-115)
Over 50 points -110
Under 50 points -110
Antonio Brown is another member of the Steelers who is bitching and moaning at the present time. He is a little upset that the other wide receivers on the team are not producing enough to take pressure off him. He complained about “triple coverage” against Baltimore last Sunday. And, we quote, “other guys have to step up.” There are injuries affecting the wide receiver corps on this team. Markus Wheaton and Darrius Heyward Bay will not play in this game, and Sammie Coates has been dealing with a broken finger. So Brown can expect a lot of attention once again.
BetAnySports patrons, while noting Pittsburgh’s inability to move the ball for most of the game against Baltimore, have to admire what they did on defense. The Ravens’ Joe Flacco threw a 95-yard touchdown pass to Mike Wallace, but otherwise they gave up only 2.9 yards per play, which is outstanding. This week they have to deal with perhaps the best rookie in the NFL this season. No, were not talking about Prescott, but running back Ezekiel Elliott, who leads the league with 891 rushing yards. Baltimore did not have a rushing game that was flourishing, but with Dallas it is completely opposite.
The Dallas defense has not allowed any rusher or receiver to gain 100 yards in a game yet this season. But they could be a little thin in the secondary, with quarterback Morris Claiborne and safety Barry Church ruled out of this contest. Thankfully, they got corner Orlando Scandrick into the lineup. Let’s see if Roethlisberger’s ability to move the team in the final 10 minutes last week means that he brushed off the rust and is ready to carry some rhythm into this game.
