NFL FOOTBALL BETTING PREVIEW – CHIEFS AT STEELERS 10/2
We have an early prediction – it’s not going to be as easy for the Kansas City Chiefs this week as it was last week. It doesn’t necessarily take a lot of guts to make that call, but of course it was a very unusual situation that Kansas City enjoyed last week, as they intercepted Ryan Fitzpatrick of the New York Jets six times and won the game by 21 points despite getting outgained. On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers await them at Heinz Field, and Ben Roethlisberger is in no mood to be that generous. The game begins at 8:30 PM ET, with live television via NBC, and BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity to make wagers on this game as it is happening, using the considerable facilities provided by Live Betting Ultra.
The Steelers are an angry bunch, having been humiliated to an even higher degree than the Jets were last week. Pittsburgh lost 34-3 to the Philadelphia Eagles, and Roethlisberger had a passer rating of only 62.4. The Steelers, who were still in the game at halftime, only had 98 yards in the second half, as the Eagles defense, designed by Jim Schwartz, befuddled them at every turn.
The Chiefs are in a pretty decent mood; not only were they the beneficiaries of such charity last week, but it looks as if Jamaal Charles will be available for action. Charles, the former All-Pro running back, has been sitting out but has not necessarily been missed all that much, as Spencer Ware has compiled almost a five-yard per-carry average, adding 185 receiving yards to the mix.
In the Sunday night football betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Steelers are the favorites at home:
Kansas City Chiefs +3.5
Pittsburgh Steelers -3.5
Over 46 points -110
Under 46 points -110
Big Ben has been intercepted four times this season and is less than 60% accurate. But he has been working without some offensive weapons. Well, just as Charles is coming back for Kansas City this week, Le’Veon Bell will be back in the fold for the Steelers. He has served a three-game suspension, during which time he has not been officially allowed to practice with the team. How close will he be to game shape? That might be something of a mystery. But his potential value to this offense is clear. Bell not only has the ability to put up great rushing numbers, but also catches passes out of the backfield, and even though this team has gotten commendable contributions from DeAngelo Williams, who has 347 all-purpose yards, it will make them that much deeper with another stud in the backfield.
BetAnySports patrons saw that Carson Wentz pretty much had his way with the Pittsburgh defense last week, and Alex Smith obviously has a lot more experience to draw upon. Smith, as a veteran, prides himself on making good decisions, and even though he will take a sack now and then (well, exactly nine this season thus far), he wants to minimize those turnovers. And he has done a good job at it, throwing only one interception in 118 attempts. Of course, he is no stranger to this, having gone 300 attempts without a pickoff, in a streak that finally ended last season.
With Martavis Bryant suspended for the season, and Markus Wheaton getting back into the swing of things rather slowly, Antonio Brown will be in the spotlight once again. He was targeted 18 times by Roethliberger last week, and he has more than one third of this team’s receptions for the first three games. Who will be going up against Brown? Marcus Peters of the Chiefs will likely draw this assignment the lion’s share of the time, and that is a heckuva matchup, since Peters is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the NFL’s genuine “shutdown” cornerbacks.
These teams met last year, with Kansas City winning 23-13, but Big Benr did not play, as he was injured. Landry Jones got the start and threw two interceptions, so obviously the Steelers have a bit of a score to settle here.
