NFL BETTING PREVIEW 10/23 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS AT PITTSBURGH STEELERS

The Pittsburgh Steelers hope that they can get by for a little while without their starting quarterback. For how long, who knows. But there probably couldn’t be a worse possible opponent for them than the one that is coming to town on Sunday. The New England Patriots won three of their four games WITHOUT Tom Brady, and now they seem genuinely energized now that he is back in the lineup and has completed his four-game suspension for the Deflategate “scandal.” Game time for this contest at Heinz Field is 4:25 PM ET, and BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity to take part in wagering after the opening kickoff, as they make use of what is available from Live Betting Ultra.

There were probably a lot of people who didn’t think the Pats would be sitting with a 5-1 record right now, but Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett held down the fort pretty good. Now that Brady is back, he is really taking advantage of what is around him. In two games, he has thrown for 779 yards, as New England has beaten both Cleveland and Cincinnati. Of course, they actually had a close game with the Bengals deep into the third quarter, then pulled away.

If the Patriots decide they aren’t going to take their foot off the gas pedal, this could be a long afternoon for the Steelers, who are without Ben Roethlisberger, a guy who wouldn’t have been intimidated in the least by these circumstances.

In the football odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Patriots are a road favorite:

New England Patriots -7
Pittsburgh Steelers +7

Over 47 points -110
Under 47 points -110

Roethlisberger tore a meniscus in his knee in his team’s very disappointing 30-15 loss to Miami last Sunday, and it really isn’t known how long he is going to be out after his arthroscopic surgery. It will be at least two games. The man taking snaps now will be Landry Jones, the former QB at the University of Oklahoma who has had mixed results in his limited action. Jones started two games for the Steelers last season; in those games they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs and defeated the Cleveland Browns. All told, his 2015 numbers included 32 completions in 55 attempts, with three TD passes and four interceptions. At times he had that “deer in the headlights” look, and that is usually what Pats’ coach Bill Belichick, a respected defensive mind, likes to see.

BetAnySports patrons know that it is imperative that people like Le’Veon Bell step up to the plate and give something a little extra, but will that kind of thing be difficult for somebody like Antonio Brown? The record-setting wide receiver wasn’t secretive about the fact that he just didn’t click all that well with anyone but Big Ben, so he is not very comfortable with Jones in there.

And maybe more of a concern is the defense, which yielded 222 rushing yards to the Dolphins last week – 204 of them to Jay Ajayi. When you consider the fact that they also allow 294 passing yards per game, well, that opens up all kinds of doors for what Brady and his offense can do. The two tight ends – Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett – had 210 receiving yards between them last week against Cincinnati. And Brady has beaten a lot of blitzes.
