NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS AT CLEVELAND BROWNS 10/9 NFL BETTING PREVIEW
The New England Patriots look like a team that wasn’t even there last week. Obviously their quarterback situation was in much flux, but they certainly don’t expect that to be the case this week, as they bring back the guy who has led them to four Super Bowl victories. Tom Brady, who has served a four-game suspension over the Deflategate scandal, is eligible to play again, and that should make all the difference in the world. Their opponents are the Cleveland Browns, who are still looking for their first victory after four defeats. Game time at First Energy Stadium in Cleveland is 1 PM ET, and while CBS televises the game on a regional basis, BetAnySports customers get to place their wagers all through the game, in real time, as they utilize what is available through Live Betting Ultra.
What a sharp contrast between the experience level of these two quarterbacks! Brady has been in New England seemingly forever, while Cody Kessler, the quarterback of the Browns, will be making his third NFL start. Cleveland is already on its third quarterback, and that, together with the winless record, is kind of a microcosm as to how things have generally been since this city got its franchise back in 1999.
The best head coach Hue Jackson can hope for at this point is progress, and there are indeed a couple of bright spots Cleveland can .point to, although moral victories are the last thing this franchise needs right now.
In the pro football betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Patriots are laying a heavy number on the road:
New England Patriots -11
Cleveland Browns +11
Over 46.5 points -110
Under 46.5 points -110
Brady is familiar with several of his targets, obviously, but has not yet worked with the two-tight end set up of Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett. These guys are potentially lethal together. Bennett is living up to what coach Bill Belichick was looking for out of him, as he has averaged 16.5 yards per reception. Gronk has been limited because of hamstring injuries, and although he is not expected to be at full strength for this one, he certainly will be in the game.
This contest brings together two of the NFL’s leading rushers. LeGarrette Blount of New England was the league leader going into last week’s games, and he has 352 yards. But Isaiah Crowell, who was much-maligned for some comments he made on Twitter prior to the season, leads the AFC with 386 yards, and he has a 6.4-yard average. This is kind of out of the ordinary for him, but he has had a couple of very long runs, including an 85-yard touchdown scamper against Baltimore.
BetAnySports patrons can expect that Belichick’s defensive game plan will be to stack the box to stop the run (Cleveland is also first in the league as a team in rushing yards) and dare Kessler to beat them through the air. There are some questions as to how much range this kids arm really has, but one of the pleasant surprises this season has been the emergence of Terrelle Pryor, a former starting quarterback with the Oakland Raiders, as the #1 receiver. Pryor has 19 catches for 290 yards, and there is no doubt about his ability as a pure athlete. Pryor is also expected, from time to time, to take direct snaps as a quarterback, and if you’ve got some nostalgia in your bones, you’ll remember how an underdog Miami Dolphins team introduced the “wildcat” against the Patriots some years ago, pulling off an upset.
