FOOTBALL BETTING PREVIEW – OAKLAND RAIDERS AT KANSAS CITY CHIEFS 1/3
The Kansas City Chiefs have clinched at least a wild-card spot in the AFC, and there is still hope that they could beat out the Denver Broncos for the AFC West championship. It has been a remarkable turnaround which really should afford Andy Reid some consideration for coach of the year honors. On Sunday afternoon the Chiefs will take to the field for their regular-season finale against the Oakland Raiders, in a game that begins at 4:25 PM ET at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity to make their challenge against the football betting odds in real time through the facilities of Live Betting Extra, and that is something that should not be missed.
Kansas City started up the season with a 1-5 record, while Denver won its first seven. Obviously no one would have bet at that point that the Chiefs could possibly overtake the Broncos in the division. But there is currently a nine-game winning streak, and this has made the Chiefs only the second team in NFL history to make the playoffs after losing five of their first six games.
And they are doing it just the way that Reid wants – playing very solid defense and minimizing turnovers. As an added bonus, Kansas City is that more rushing yards than anyone in the NFL since their star back, Jamaal Charles, went down with the season-ending injury.
In the football betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Chiefs are favored more than a full touchdown:
Kansas City Chiefs -7.5 (+100)
Oakland Raiders +7.5 (-120)
Over 43 points -110
Under 43 points -110
The Chiefs don’t have any running backs with 1000 yards, but they have had various people filling in for Charles, including Charcandrick West, who has 600 yards on the button, and Spencer Ware, who is averaging 5.8 yards per carry. And of course, quarterback Alex Smith experienced the second-longest streak in league history without an interception. In seven of these nine consecutive victories, this team has yielded 14 points or less, and all told, turnover margin is at +15.
The Raiders had a pretty good opportunity to beat the Chiefs four weeks ago, leaving 20-13 in the fourth quarter, but Derek Carr was intercepted three times and Kansas City scored 20 unanswered points. Oakland has won two of its three games since, defeating the Denver Broncos as the visitor, then losing to Green Bay, but coming back on Christmas Eve to defeat the San Diego Chargers in overtime. This game is special for Charles Woodson, will be retiring from the league after this one.
BetAnySports patrons have seen improvement in Carr from last season. He has an excellent ratio of 31 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, so his turnover outburst against Kansas City the first time around was more the exception than the rule. And rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper is now up to 1050 yards, which certainly strengthens his argument for the rookie of the year trophy. The Raiders also have the leading rusher in the AFC, at least coming into this weekend, in Latavius Murray, so you’ve got to applaud what this offense has done in their first year under head coach Jack Dale Rio.
Take note that Kansas City will be without its two top pass rushers in this one. Justin Houston and Tampa Hali, who have combined for 14 sacks, are not available for action. However, on a team that registered 41 sacks overall, there are some other people who can get to the passer. Carr has been pretty well protected, with only 25 sacks against 540 passing attempts.
