FOOTBALL BETTING PREVIEW – GREEN BAY PACKERS AT ATLANTA FALCONS (10/30)

The Green Bay Packers have some problems in their backfield right now, and that might have quite a bearing on how Aaron Rodgers approaches Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. When we say that, we mean that he could fill the air with footballs, and the reason that might be something of an extra concern is that he isn’t enjoying the kind of form he is used to having. But will the Packers be able to “trade” in this game, which is set to begin at 4:25 PM ET at Georgia Dome? It is earmarked as a national game by the Fox Network, and BetAnySports customers can place wagers in this one, even after the opening kickoff, as they are watching it, as they make use of the mechanism known as Live Betting Ultra.

The Packers beat the Chicago Bears pretty decisively last time out (26-10), but let’s be honest – they had the advantage of being able to play a Chicago team that lost quarterback Brian Hoyer to a broken arm and had to go with the pedestrian Matt Barkley. That isn’t likely to be the case this week, as the Falcons, with Matt Ryan at the controls, leads the league in offense.

But the Falcons have lost two games in a row, and the last one was in the Georgia Dome, a come-from-ahead 33-30 overtime defeat at the hands of the San Diego Chargers. This defense has allowed almost 300 yards a game, and that is a mark Rodgers hasn’t reached enough lately.

In the football betting odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Falcons are favored by a field goal at home:

Atlanta Falcons -3
Green Bay Packers +3

Over 53 points -110
Under 53 points -110

Let’s talk about the Packers’ backfield for a minute. Eddie Lacy has an injured ankle, while James Starks has just had minor knee surgery and is not going to be available for this game. So Green Bay has to improvise. One of the things coach Mike McCarthy is going to do is use wide receivers at times at running back. That means Randall Cobb, who once played quarterback at Kentucky, and Ty Montgomery. There is also Knile Davis, who they acquired in a trade before the game wit Chicago. They will clearly have to manufacture something back there, to keep the Falcons’ defense honest.

BetAnySports patrons have to admire the way the Atlanta offense has performed, even if they don’t think much of this team’s playoff chances. Ryan has thrown for 2348 yards and 16 touchdowns, and he has averaged 9.6 yards per attempt, which is significant because it is 3.3 yards per attempt more than that of Rodgers. The Packers’ secondary has been banged up an awful lot, which might be pretty good news for Julio Jones, who has glittering numbers with 830 yards and almost 21 yards per catch.

Do the Packers have a major edge on defense? Well, they have allowed just 3.1 yards per rushing attempt, but we have seen that a capable ground attack (like Dallas) moved at will against them, so we’ll see what Davonta Freeman (4.8 ypc) can do against them.
