FOOTBALL BETTING ODDS & PREVIEW – WASHINGTON REDSKINS AT DETROIT LIONS (10/23)
The Washington Redskins got off to a dreadful start, but they have been coming on strong, just like they did the end of last season when they rallied to win the NFC East. Currently they are on a four-game winning streak, and they put that on the line with a trip to Ford Field on Sunday for a 1 PM ET kickoff against the Detroit Lions. BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity, even after the opening kickoff, to engage in football betting in real time by using the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.
Washington got the job done on both sides of the ball last weekend; not only did they run for 230 yards against one of the better defenses in the league, but they also held the Philadelphia Eagles without an offensive touchdown. So you might say they did things the old-fashioned way. Kirk Cousins was not as accurate as usual, but he had great distribution to his receivers, as four different pass-catchers had 50 or more yards. She might say right now that Jay Gruden’s team is definitely pointing in the right direction.
The Lions are happy, after they came out of last week’s game with a 31-28 home win over the Los Angeles Rams. And their quarterback, Matthew Stafford, is once again putting up great numbers. What they are looking for is some balance on offense, which is why it will be important for them to find a ground game somewhere.
In the football betting odds that have been posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, Detroit is a slight favorite at home:
Detroit Lions -1.5
Washington Redskins +1.5
Over 49.5 points -110
Under 49.5 points -110
Here is some good news for Cousins: Detroit’s secondary is extremely pliable. The Lions allowed journeyman Case Keenum to complete 27 out of 32 passes against them last week, and he was able to do so while the Rams once again did not get much of a rushing game going. Currently Detroit has yielded almost 74% completions, and for a secondary with that many holes, a passing attack like Washington has, where there are a lot of different receivers who can get the ball on any given play, represents a dangerous opponent.
BetAnySports patrons know that Detroit may have to get into one of those “shootouts” to win. Well, Stafford is well-equipped for such a thing, as he has completed 69% of his passes with 1648 yards. But the Lions’ offensive line had better protect Stafford well, as Washington got through to Carson Wentz for five sacks last week. Granted, Stafford is a guy with much more experience, and he doesn’t necessarily have to take as much time making decisions. But you also have to keep in mind that without a real go-to back, pass rushers can tee off on him. Ameer Abdullah is injured, and Zach Zenner, a second-year man out of South Dakota State, had to provide most of the ground forces last week, with 58 yards. The Lions have signed Justin Forsett to a contract, and we’re expecting him to see some extended action this week.
