NFL Odds & Preview — Buffalo Bills at New York Jets (11/14)
The New York Jets have gone through their share of drama this season at the quarterback position. Well, perhaps it is not completely accurate to call it drama. But they drafted a rookie to build their team around, and apparently it’s going to take a while for him to develop.
Meanwhile, BetAnySports customers have seen a guy step in who is finally getting his chance after a few years on the sidelines, and for the time being, while he may not be the future, he is the present.
Mike White will get another start for the Jets as they play host to the Buffalo Bills in a game that begins at 1 p.m. Eastern time in the Meadowlands.
The Bills, whose lead the AFC East by only a half game over the New England Patriots, went through the embarrassment of a 9 – 6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. Josh Allen threw for 264 yards, but it took him 47 attempts to do it. And he was intercepted twice. And aside from Allen, the Buffalo ground game produced only 22 yards. So obviously there’s some reason for this team to be upset, and reason for them to want to redeem themselves.
In the NFL odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Bills will be laying quite a number:
Buffalo Bills – 13
New York Jets +13
Over 47.5 points -110
Under 47.5 points – 110
White, who ran a prolific passing offense when he was playing at Western Kentucky, then circulated through a few NFL practice squads, threw for 405 yards in his first career start, which was a 34-31 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He looked to be on his way toward another big game, this time against the Indianapolis Colts, when he suffered a contusion in his right forearm. He had 97 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter.
So even though Zach Wilson, the second overall choice in the 2021 NFL draft, is physically able to play after an injury, White gets the call, and another chance to show what he can do. And veteran Joe Flacco, who once upon a time won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens, is the backup.
There could be a tendency to overrate and over-price the Bills at this point, because of the anticipation of a big bounce-back victory. And certainly the Jets invite that kind of talk, because they have given up 130 points over the last three games. But it’s interesting that this New York offense has operated with a lot of efficiency in the time that Wilson has not been playing quarterback.
Buffalo is fourth in the league in points scored per drive, so you have to figure they will get untracked at some point, and definitely not look like they did when they couldn’t score a touchdown against Jacksonville last week. Allen has done pretty well, throwing for 2236 yards and 17 touchdowns. And he has gotten good protection, suffering only 12 sacks. The Bills will score.
But you have to like the vitality in this Jets offense with White at the helm. And we’re okay riding that, although the way we are looking at it, it translates to going OVER the total of 47.5 points.
