All right, Tommy D back here. Welcome back everyone to our podcast bet the edge. We got a big show today, NFL divisional playoffs Saturday and Sunday, some real marquee matchups here. We’re gonna get into all that. We’re also going to talk a little about college basketball. You got probably about 100 games on Saturday. So we did find one of interest here. Let me get right to it. I’m going to want to introduce my two co hosts. Number one we got Scott Matthews here from XM sports pics Scott. What’s going on my friend?

Hey Tommy, what’s going on? Now looking forward to this show. This is the time of year I get my goosebumps get a little roll in it’s NFL football and it’s getting closer and closer to the Super Bowl. So very excited about these games this weekend.

What we’re going to be doing here is we’re going to be looking at one game on Saturday, the divisional game, we’re going to be looking at the Niners Packers game, then we’re going to be looking at a game on Sunday, we’re going to be looking at Bill’s chiefs, and we’re going to throw in a college basketball game for Saturday LSU Tennessee. There wasn’t a line on that game of when we started that broadcast, but we’re going to do our best to put out a winner. I couple of things going on in the NFL. I mean, there’s always some controversy going on out there. I did see that. NFL is looking at dismiss that case against Jon Gruden. I guess he’s suing him for like a billion dollars. They said that he lost his job. I guess a wrongful lawsuit. I’m not an attorney here. I don’t know. There’s a lot of emails out there for a number of years him sending out some real funky stuff. So I don’t really know what where that’s gonna go. Any thoughts, Scott on that?

I mean, that’s, that’s a whole different category that I’m in. But that’s all legal, you know, that’s gonna go through a whole system, you know, with the NFL and this one and that one he said, she said, that’s way over my head. Tom, I gotta be honest with you. You know, the proofs in the pudding. I mean, they were out there, the emails were there. I don’t know, to what extent obviously I don’t have all the information in front of me. Like, you know, both sides do have, but you know, that’s, that’s gonna be a tough win either way for either the NFL or Gruden. You know, to try to make that happen. I really don’t know what’s gonna come out of that one. I gotta be honest with you.

Dry any thoughts on that? I mean, we’re not legal scholars here. This is not we don’t give out legal advice. Controversial guy. I thought pretty good coach, but they claim they have you had a checkered past, you know, quietly, you know, before so this is not surprising. I mean, I guess maybe surprising to most, you know, the public and stuff like that, because the guy had a kind of a, you know, like a Teflon kind of, you know, feel to himself, like, you know, he was on Monday Night Football. You know, he was a coach in the public guy he was looked at as a really nice guy, but, you know, they didn’t really know this dark side that he had a lot of, you know, players and stuff like that. And people around them knew a little bit. Obviously, they know a lot more about them than guys like ourselves do. But this guy has had a checkered past. I mean, as far as not being a quiet boy, on the way he you know, speaks and talks about certain races and things like that. You know what I’m trying to say?

Dry you want to kick out anything that I mean, never. I mean, it just seem is that this has been going on for years, it seems. I don’t think you’ll ever getting a job in NFL didn’t happen. So, alright. Yeah, a lot of these emails supposedly went around, you know, you don’t know who else was involved in all this, you know, agreeing or disagreeing with, you know, there’s probably so many names involved in all this. It’d be crazy. A lot of people could get out, you know, that it circulated to so who knows at the end?

Who knows is right. I saw that video. I mean, I think they’re making a big thing out of Bruce Arians. I mean, they said he slapped the player in the helmet. I mean, he technically did try to age Woody Hayes days. Well, but what he hates that a little more than that, but But Well, he was fighting 50 grand I mean, I don’t know if the guy said he was trying to break up that he didn’t jump in the pile if there was a fight 50 grand to him. That’s that’s not even a week’s pay. Probably. But, you know, I guess this stuff goes on. There’s a lot of emotions on that game. It’s right. Yeah. I mean, it’s football, guys. We’re playing football, they hate each other for a living. I mean, I’m sure if that player that player is a grown man, if he had had a problem with it, he would have hashed it out with Bruce Arians. I mean, of the NFL, of course, has to like, you know, act like this is just some big you know, you’re gonna find him but it’s football. These these are two grown men, they can hash it out on their own.

I tend to agree. I tend to agree. I mean, it’s not like he took a hammer hit him over the head. I mean, he hit the guy. helmet on. These guys are six, five to add. I mean, I’m sure they feel worse on every game. So you know, we’ll see what happens that just one other thing. I mean, Lakers are always out there. They’re trying to find their way. Some are saying it’s the Frank Vogel’s coach some are standing up I think LeBron even I think he was neutral kind of he didn’t say yea or nay if the guy should go. But any thoughts on where the Lakers what they need to get back to where they walk?

The lake is definitely going to make a change. It’s just a question if it’s a coaching change, or they’re gonna move some players, but they definitely need to make some changes. Because if you Magic Johnson put out a tweet the other day, and he kind of directed it at Jeanie buss. If you notice, I don’t know exactly the exact words in the tweet, but he kind of put it out there like, Guys, you got to make some changes yet. His team needs to go in a different direction. I mean, it’s just not working out, obviously right now. And yeah, they’re gonna have to definitely do something on that. Whether it’s the coach, obviously, the coach always seems to take the blame, in most cases, because it can’t fire all the players. So what do they do? They fired a coach, they try to bring in another coach, they try to find someone that can fit with that nucleus and turn it on, you know, turn them put them in a better direction. But you know, Westbrook is always been tough. I mean, he’s always had, you know, issues, you know.

Yeah, I mean, I really had hate to start on Lakers here because in terms of gambling, there’s such a tough team to gammer I mean, they kill they are they lose to to the nuggets by 40. Then the next night they go and beat the the job and a crazy comeback. And then the night after that they they lose to the Pacers who are one of the worst teams in the league. So I really, I don’t know what is I mean, I do know what’s wrong. It For Me? It’s Russell Westbrook. I think he’s vastly overrated. And he’s one of the most overrated players in NBA history. He can’t shoot. He is shooting. I saw that there that he shooting 59% on dunks. What dunk should be 100% he shooting 59% on those. He’s I mean, he got benched yesterday. And I think they’re blaming poor team building on the coach and Frank Vogel. That team was not built for LeBron LeBron needs shooters around him and you give him probably one of the best slashing point guards of all time. So I really I don’t understand why Bogle is getting the blame here. And they can’t trade was broke because his salary is so big. So I really just I don’t know they got to figure it out. Hopefully ad coming back can can help them.

Alright, let’s Let’s get to the meat and potatoes of this show the NFL divisional playoffs. We’re gonna start with the first game Saturday night. Niners at packers, I just checked the number, the numbers, like five and a half pack is a favorite. Total is. I’m gonna double check the total right now. 47 We’re gonna start with you, Scott. What do you think here? We’re having a little I’m getting I’m getting cut out today. I don’t know somebody out there that want me to speak today?

And I’ll bet we could hate Did you hit? Did you hear what I said? Nine is that pack is five and a half? What 47? What’s your take?

My take on this game. I gotta be honest with you. I think this game is going to be very, very interesting, really interesting, actually. Because, remember what I said last time, the this 49 Your team in the month of January, is now 1/8 consecutive games, they find ways when it seems to be count to win ballgames. And then right now eight. Now in the last eight games in January, they are physical on both sides of the ball, which could cause trouble for a team like Green Bay, the weather conditions are going to suck. I mean, bottom line, it’s going to be below zero at best game time, they said they’re talking about single digits, 1350 mile an hour winds, which are going to make the game like zero or below zero. But in a game like this, I gotta be honest with you. I think the weather obviously is gonna play a major factor in the game, but I just feel the way that San Francisco is playing. And I think so much is on the line with Green Bay, you know, obviously with this Aaron Rodgers and this year, and is he staying? Is he going is this it and all this stuff. I think San Francisco I mean, they already proved they can play with him the last time if it wasn’t for Aaron Rodgers miracle, 30 seconds left to drive down and kick a field goal to lift it that game, you know, San Francisco might have won that game. But I think the way San Francisco is playing right now, the direction they’re going in, I you know, the week off, obviously could help Green Bay, you know, freshen up. But all that play is on both sides are going to be back both is going to be back some key players on both sides. Both teams on both sides of the ball will be back in action for this game. I think if you could get this number to about six, six and a half. I like the dog in this game a lot. How can you go against the team that’s eight No, in last eight games in January, which are probably most all playoff games, and there ain’t no against the spread. And it getting five and a half, it probably go up to six, maybe six and a half who knows tomorrow, what the number will be. But I like this, if you can get six, six and a half, even up to seven on this game, I would take the dog I think this game is going to be close unless the weather really screws it up for San Francisco. But I think Jimmy G can manage the game as long as he stays error free. Now if he starts throwing a lot of picks and turning the ball over and they turn it over Green Bay, lead them up and blow him out. I’m sure but in the case, I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think they’ll stay close to the game. I think this game stays is about a three to four point game. Either way, whoever wins it.

I think there’s alive in this game I really do because you got to live dog to comply.

And Shanahan knows how to coach them and they’ve been through the system.

And even though Green Bay is great, and they’ve got you know, advanced all these, you know, games over the years. I think that San Francisco could come in here and show up and keep it close. Definitely dry. What’s your take on this one nine is Green Bay five and a half. What do you think?

Well, I really don’t I don’t like lines of say like minus five and football games. I don’t know why but I’m going to make a pick on the total here. I’m going to take the over 47 I believe it is right now with green band 49. If we remember Scott mentioned the previous game to 40. Niners Well, I think the game ended 30 to 28.

So I know the weather is gonna be bad in this in this game, but guys look at the playmakers on both sides of the ball. You’ve got debo Samuel, you’ve got Elijah Mitch, you got Brandon, you got Rogers on the other side of the Davante Adams and Aaron Jones and and Dylan I mean I just think the overs gonna happen in this game. I the Niners are coming out with the Niners don’t want to have seams NFL when it comes to scoring. But the Packers are averaging 34 points six points over the last five games with Aaron Rodgers not counting the previous game where they still put up 30 points, but it was against the lions and Rodgers got subbed out and you’re giving probably two of the top five offensive mind minded coaches in the NFL. This especially Loeffler, you’re giving him two weeks to prepare. You’re giving Shanahan a week to prepare. I mean, I think I think he’s two other than McVeigh are probably the top two offensive minded coaches in the NFL. So I do think with this much time to prepare, I think the over is going to happen in this game. And for all of you guys thinking about taking that, that it looks juicy I know the the 40 Niners money line, it’s like to give a warning that love Flores never lost back to back games, and they lost in week 17 to the lions, he has never lost back to back games with the Packers.

Just a warning. Right? Right, that’s

an injury, it’s

vague. He’s making a good point. These teams are both very strong offensive minded teams. And when two teams clash like that, you saw it and the first time they clash the game happened to be extremely close. Now as I said the weather conditions that you know were much better in that first game but if the weather conditions don’t really become a factor for either one of these teams, and they don’t turn the ball over me this could be the same type of mirror game I mean, it could be who who scores last wins it kind of thing because they both can score points as we’ve seen that already the pro San Francisco scores points their offense you know they manage well Jimmy Jesus a decent enough quarterback and he’s been in big enough games and it’s you know career even as as a backup and as a starter that he can go into a hostile environment like Green Bay and keep the game close. Obviously Green Bay a tough place to play but they really don’t have a good record in the playoffs at home they’re not really you know, an Ask kickin team, it’s all like wow, you go into Green Bay and you’re scared of them. So I think Shanahan is going to take advantage of that and pump his team up guys, listen, we could beat this team, we already proved we can beat them. You know, we lost a brutal game in the last 30 seconds we should have won the last time we played them. So he’s got things that he can pump his team up. And obviously Green Bay is going to try to use that you know, advantage of winning that last game and say, Hey, we we beat them and now we’re in our building. And we got the weather working for us. But I like the points man. The points look really, really appetizing.

Alright, so the points on the over we’re going to shift gears here for a second is a lot of college hoops on Saturday. We can’t carry them all obviously we’d be here for five hours, but there’s one game that stood out. The line was not out when we started this broadcast. So keep that in mind to six o’clock game Easton LSU at Tennessee got 13th ranked LSU against 24th ranked volunteers. I’m going to go back to you Dre What’s your take on this game?

Yeah, I mean without really align we really can’t say much but if I would have to you know give you guys a pic, I’d probably take the Tennessee spread. As I’ve said as this system continues to hit for me home teams and ranked games continue to win and continue to cover. So our probably take tenants here especially with us to coming out for tough loss in Alabama, got to travel to Tennessee and pack gym with those students sections. I mean, the student sections are proving to be a really big factor in these games and these college games. We saw Purdue go down to Indiana last night. And that crazy upset and we saw FSU be a Duke the other night and another crazy home upset. So I think that Tennessee is the play here.

college basketball man it’s, you know, it’s fun Times at Ridgemont High as they say but you know, I really liked the way I had LSU big the other night and I said it on the show that the numbers if they were three and a half of betta to jump on that game, I got lucky obviously, because they were down late by 13 but I like the way they crawl back into that game at the end. They were down a lot they could have thrown the towel in and the last couple minutes it went down by like 13 points and they actually cut that game down to one point I mean at the very end so I like the way they were playing they you know they’re still missing a keep key and component to their offense but they’re finding ways to stay in games. Now I look at games like this I think Tennessee is gonna open about the same number it could open anywhere from two and a half to three three points you know that’s what I’m thinking at this point. There’s no number out yet but Tennessee will definitely get the home court advantage as far as the number goes so I think they’re going to be about a two to three point favorite in this game. But I just think that LSU they lost that game they really played you know, out don’t forget Alabama lost three straight games in a row so you know they were as hungry as hungry could be to get a W and as hungry as they were LSU almost found the way to sneak that game out. Coming back in it. I think this Tennessee Team has just not as gelled a team as LSU is, I think LSU I hate to go back, they’re going back on the road, but I think this is the right game for them. I think this is a really big play, I could see LSU coming into this game, and really dominating this game, I could see them blown, actually winning by double digits in this ballgame. I just feel they’re going to take the momentum, they lost a tough game, they’re going to put it back together. And they’re going to come into Tennessee, as Tennessee is not really as good as you know, they appear, I think that vulnerable to be beaten this game. And I like LSU I really like them, because I think their inside game is going to open up the outside game. And I think all they got to do is start connecting on some of those shots, and they will beat Tennessee pretty handily.

And I think you’ll get a cup, I think if you can get this line guys, and again, I’m just throwing a number right now. But if you can get three and a half or three, three and a half points or better, with LSU in this game, back up the trucks, man, it’s time to make the money.

It’s the Sunday night game. Bill’s Casey I mean, both teams looked real impressive. Last time out, Scott. The line right now is to the Chiefs favorite two totals, like 5454 and a half what you take out wow, what a tough What a nice game. I mean, two teams right now just zone right in. Great matchup, two young stud quarterbacks, lots of weapons. Defense is playing decent on both sides of the ball. Actually, Kansas City’s defense has been surprisingly well of late.

Earlier in the season. They were they were like a you know, easy, easy, easy play to score on and move the ball. Not not of late. buffaloes same thing heating up Josh Allen Man, this guy is like a one man running machine. Find a ways to keep the ball, you know, keeping drives alive. I’ll tell you what, I really really liked this game. A lot of the bills have had success in Kansas City. They’ve done well there. I believe there’s six and two in the last eight games in Kansas City. And I got to be honest with you, the way they’re playing right now. And I think just the way that this Josh Allen is controlling the team. And you know, and it seems like the defense is really picking up as well. And the offense is just jealous. They scored seven straight possessions against New England. I mean that the Winger was you know, so called the defense of genius team, you know, weeks ago, and buffalo just made them look terrible. I mean, I really liked by flow in this game guys, I gotta tell you, I I’d get this game right now I don’t even think you have to move the line. I think buffalo is going to win this game I just feel that they’re right right now is good as Kansas City is I think they just haven’t ran into a team like this that’s on all cylinders like this right now. I mean kids, she’s a great team, you can’t take anything away from their weapons.

They got great weapons with Kelsey and Tyreke hill and you know mahomes And you know, they get a decent running game and like I said their defense has been jellen I just don’t think they can match up against buffalo I think this number on this game is there there’s a reason why it’s it too is because they’re just trying to trap people in on this game. And I think they’re not going to be able to trap anyone because the shops are going to jump on the bills guys like myself that the real shop money movers are going to take advantage of this opportunity. Grab that two points and Ron, I love Buffalo in this game guys big time.

I take the points with the bills mafia dry What’s your take on this one?

So I will say before I give my pick, I do think whoever wins this game will be in the Super Bowl representing the AFC I don’t think anyone on the other side of that bracket can beat them in the titans of the bangles. But I am 100% with Scott here.

I think the bills are going to win this game outright. The plus two I don’t even know why. To be honest, I think the bill should be favored in this game number kick start at three it came down but the bills defense I think that the differences here his defense the offenses are both pretty evenly matched in my opinion, but the bills defense ranks first in total yards first in passing yards allowed and first in points allowed over the regular season. Their third only stat that they’re not first in is rushing earns a lot per game. And that is not where Kansas City excels. So passing the football um, they literally and the bills just held the league ate the best rushing attack to 89 rushing yards. So I think the bulls are gonna win this game.

Um, we know that they lost last year 38 to 24 but then they won this year 38 to 20 in a game where Josh Allen dominated he had 315 passing Rs 303 toadies yet the real difference was the different defense in that game. Joshua had 12.1 yards per attempt while mahomes was only at five the bills up one five in a row by an average of 21 points they’re just hot right now. They were my preseason Super Bowl pick. I’m gonna ride with them I’m gonna stick with them. I think the bills are gonna win this game outright

they just played really well right now they won five straight games since that second half of the Tampa Bay game yeah, just turn that on and this became a whole different engine right now. I mean, Kansas is a great team and you’re not going to make mahomes a dog at home anyways no matter what so you know, but this number to be honest with you a true bias it Kansas City was right I think would have been three three and a half solid and maybe in the fact that they made this number two it’s almost like a tease play.

They’re trying to trap the public here. Yeah, it’s my it’s three I don’t wanna buy fuel. But I’m gonna trap us though guys.

So listen, you know what if Josh Allen plays like he’s been playing the last four or five weeks I don’t think they have a shot Kansas City if they can find a way to contain Josh Allen then you know then then we got a lot of Aegon I face come on uh you know come after the weekend but I just don’t think he’s stoppable right now they get the he’s just making all the right decisions. And as good as mahomes is and his tremendous team they have I just don’t know if they can really stop this guy. I just think that this guy is going to keep keep his team on the field and it’s going to keep that offense of Kansas City’s off the field and at the end of the day, I think buffalo is going to win this game somehow some way and what it pretty handily I think they’re gonna win this game by seven seven to 14 points out right?

Is there a magic game guys remember that is a revenge game they lost?

I would I would, I would say also sprinkle a little on the money line with the bills it sounds like Yes. Why not? Why not? Exactly. I what we normally do at this part of the show is we put out our best bets now there are two other games like I said, this weekend NFL we’re going to reserve those you can get them by coming to online sports betting calm. A some bills here. I just think that those are gonna win this game. I don’t think they can be stopped right now. Like I said I I think whoever wins this game is is winning the Superbowl. So I think the bills are just playing at a really high level right now. Like I mentioned, they’ve won the last five games by an average of 21 points. They’re playing incredible. They just dismantled New England. And you know that Scott mentioned that a perfect game on offense that they had every single drive results in a touchdown. Other than the kneel downs to end the game and then the half. So I think I think buffalo is too hot right now and stop. And we know in NFL playoffs, how it works, the hottest teams are who wins at all. It’s about getting hot at the right time. So I think waffle is gonna win this game.
