New England Patriots over/under for wins at 9.5
Tommy D Back With Online Sports Bet America’s Favorite Sports Information Channel. In 2020, the seven time Super Bowl champion New England Patriots broke a string of 11 consecutive playoff appearances by finishing 7-9, their first losing record in 20 years, when they went 5-11 in 2000. Entering last season, the Patriots had an over/under win total of nine with odds of 25/1 to win an eighth league championship. It was more difficult than they anticipated to replace quarterback Tom Brady, who opted for Tampa Bay and ended up leading them to their second Super Bowl win. For the upcoming season, the Patriots have an over/under win total of 9.5 and odds to win the Super Bowl of 30/1. There seems to be some optimism from the wagering community that New England will be able to sort out their quarterback situation after drafting Mac Jones out of the University of Alabama. Since capturing the franchises’ first Super Bowl following the 2001 season, head coach Bill Belichick and Tom Brady led the Patriots to sixteen playoff appearances and nine more title game appearances, winning six of them. Prior to that time, they had only made it to two Super Bowls, losing to the Chicago Bears following the 1985 season and to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXI 11 years later.
New England Patriots Record
The team was founded as the Boston Patriots in 1960 as part of the American Football League and changed its name to the New England Patriots in 1971, a year after joining the National Football League as a result of the merger of the two organizations. In their first 16 seasons, the Patriots advance to the playoffs just once, losing to the San Diego Chargers by the score of 51-10.
Prior to Bill Belichick’s arrival as head coach in 2000, the Patriots had run through four coaches over the course of the prior decade with two division titles. In the past 20 seasons, the team has won the 17 AFC East division titles with their worst performance coming with their third place finish in 2021.
Overall, the New England Patriots have 38 winning seasons out of a total of 61 played, including 19 in a row from 2001 to 2019. The Patriots’ longest stretch where they didn’t win more games than they lost was the nine years from 1967 to 1975, when they won more than five games just two times.
New England Patriots’ AFC East Domination
Since 2001, the New England Patriots have virtually owned the AFC East, winning the division title 17 times with 11 straight crowns from 2009 to 2019, but now face challenges from the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins. It will remain to be seen if the Patriots can regain that dominance with the departure of Brady and the impending retirement, at least at some point, of head coach Bill Belichick.
