Two teams coming off a tough loss clash this Sunday night with the New England Patriots going on the road to face the Detroit Lions. Game time from Ford Field for this inter-conference matchup is set for 8:20 p.m. on NBC.

New England at Detroit Game Preview

The Patriots came up short in last Sunday’s showdown against Jacksonville with a 31-20 loss as two-point road favorites. This followed a 27-20 Week 1 victory at home against Houston as 6.5-point favorites on BetAnySports’ closing line. The total stayed UNDER 49.5 points against the Texans before going OVER 44.5 points in the loss to the Jaguars. New England is 14-4 against the spread in its last 18 road games.

The addition of Josh Gordon at wide receiver was the big news in New England this week. Tom Brady has thrown for 511 yards and five touchdowns in his first two games while completing at least one pass to 10 different players. How Gordon will fit into the mix remains to be seen, but head coach Bill Belichick obviously perceived a need to add another target in the passing game.

Detroit had high hopes for this season after posting nine straight-up wins in 2017, but it is already in a 0-2 hole with a bad 48-17 loss to the New York Jets as a seven-point home favorite and last Sunday’s 30-27 loss to San Francisco as a six-point underdog on the road. The total went OVER BetAnySports’ closing line in each of these games and it has now gone OVER in eight of the Lions’ last 11 games.

Matthew Stafford had a much better day throwing the ball against the 49ers after his dismal performance in the loss to the Jets with 347 yards passing and three touchdown throws. However, the biggest concern for the Lions has to be on the defensive side of the ball in both yards and points allowed. This could be hard to fix in one week’s time against one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL.

New England at Detroit Free Game Prediction

New England is coming off a bad loss and Detroit has simply looked bad in its first two games. Laying 6.5 point on the road in any NFL game comes with some risk, but I am banking on the Patriots returning to form on Sunday night to cover.
