Monday Night Football Props — Will Nick Chubb Have a Big Evening?
The focus in the Monday night game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns will be in the possibility (indeed, the probability, according to some) that Ben Roethlisberger will be appearing at Heinz Field for the last time.
And rightfully so, considering his full body of work. But BetAnySports customers should consider something else here, especially if they are playing props.
The Browns, who have not been blessed this season with the ability to strike often in the passing game, may have themselves a real matchup advantage in the person of running back Nick Chubb, and that needs to be examined.
Chubb happens to be a terrific back; the kind but you can build an offense around. And there are very few of those guys out there. On the season, he has averaged 95.3 yards per contest. And his 5.5-yard average put him up there with the ery elite running backs in the NFL.
And his strength really lies in the fact that he knows how to plow ahead even after he’s been hit. Chubb averages three yards per carry after first contact. And that is the best in the NFL, better even than Jonathan Taylor, who is having an NBA MVP- caliber season for Indianapolis.
It was a disappointing result for him in the first meeting between these two teams, which took place on October 31st. Chubb had only 61 yards in 16 carries, and that’s the kind of thing that won’t afford the Browns a victory on most occasions. In this instance, that was indeed the case,as Pittsburgh came away wih a 15-10 win.
Currently at BetOnline the over-under on Chubb’s rushing yards for Monday night’s game is 91.5. And you will lay – 114 either way. So which way should we be going as Cleveland’s star running back goes up against a defense that, to put it mildly, can’t be referred to as the Steel Curtain anymore?
Well, maybe one factor is that Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield got intercepted four times in his last outing, against the Green Bay Packers. This squad has been thin on wide receivers, and even thinner since they got rid of Odell Beckham. But all season long, there has not been a better stratagem for Mayfield then to just turn around and hand the ball to Chubb. We suspect that’s what will be foremost on head coach Kevin Stefanski’s mind.
And it will be a pretty good idea, because Pittsburgh has been like a sieve when it comes to defending the run lately.
First of all, they are right at the bottom of the NFL in permitting 4.8 yards per rushing attempt. While we admit that we could cheat a little on their defense and stack the box a little, that’s only going to make them more vulnerable if Chubb can get past three or four yards beyond the line.
That’s because the Steelers, at the second level; that is, 5-10 yards past the line of scrimmage, are 30th in the NFL. They have allowed more runs of 20 yards or more than any team in the league.
And they just have not been doing this thing well over the past couple of months. In fact, in their last seven games, they have surrendered an average of 180.4 rushing yards. Inasmuch as we are talking about an opponent that is going to force the issue when it comes to the ground game at least if they’re smart – this is not the kind of thing that works out in Pittsburgh’s favor.
Therefore, we are going with the OVER for Nick Chubb in this one, and we feel it’s a pretty solid play.
