Low Scoring Bout In Game 1

Today, the New York Rangers, fresh off sending Sidney Crosby’s Penguins home in Game 7, will travel to PNC Arena to take on the Carolina Hurricanes. The Carolina Hurricanes themselves are coming off a slightly surprising first round of the playoffs, in which it took them seven games to put away the Boston Bruins, but a game 7 victory is all the momentum a team needs entering the second round.

However, as many people want to believe that this matchup between two powerhouses will lead to a shootout in game one, it simply won’t be the case. First off, naturally, both teams will have their best goalies in net, and secondly, this is a matchup between the two top teams in goals scored against them throughout the season. The Hurricanes ranked first in goals allowed per game at only 2.44, and the Rangers ranked a very close second at 2.49. In goal for the Rangers once again will be eager Chesterton, who we all know has had an amazing season and will most likely win the Vezina trophy, and after a rough start to this postseason, he really has bounced back and now owns a four and two record. Opposite him for the Hurricanes will be Antti Raanta, who had good stats throughout the year of a .912 save percentage and 2.45 GAA, but has boosted those numbers to .927 and 2.37 in these playoffs. Expect game one to be a slow feeling out game for both teams fresh off grueling serieses.

For our expert New York Rangers versus Carolina Hurricanes prediction, take the under of 5.5 goals.
