Does Rodgers Still Own Chicago?
The Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears on Sunday, September 18th at 8:20 pm. This will be the second game both of these teams play and will be the second Sunday Night Football game of the season. This game will feature a rivalry that is as old as football between the Packers and the Bears. This AFC North matchup will have a lot of attention. Last year when both of these teams played each other in Chicago, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers scored a touchdown and yelled at the Bears fans that he owns the Chicago Bears as he has a great record playing against them. The odds for this game are currently set at -480 Packers, +360 Chargers, and the over/under is 41.5 according to Caesars Casino & Sportsbook. The Chicago Bears head into this game with a record of 1-0 after winning last week at home against the San Francisco 49ers by a final score of 19-10. The weather conditions for this game were not ideal and the field was drenched in water after multiple storms passed over Solider Field. The Bears fell behind by 10 points and were losing 10-0 at the end of halftime. They had a second-half comeback where they scored 19 unanswered points. Quarterback Justin Fields had 149 total scrimmage yards and threw two touchdowns but did throw an interception. His performance was enough for the Bears. The defense also played a big role for the team as they caused a fumble in the first half and got a clutch second-half interception that allowed the Bears to score the touchdown that gave them the lead. Heading into this one, the weather conditions will be better and the Bears might actually be able to pass a lot more and feel confident that they can get the ball to where they intend.
The Green Bay Packers head into their home opener with a record of 0-1 after an embarrassing loss to the Minnesota Vikings. They lost that game by a final score of 23-7. The Vikings absolutely dominated the Packers as they forced two interceptions and jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the third quarter. The Packers really struggled to get an offense going. The first offensive play for the Packers was a deep pass from Rodgers to rookie wide receiver Christian Watson, that if completed, would have been a touchdown. Unfortunately for the Packers, Watson dropped the wide-open pass and it seems the energy from the Packers shifted. There had been concerns of them struggling this year without their former stud wide receiver Davante Adams and so far it has proven to be true. Rodgers threw for 195 yards and 1 interception. He was also sacked 4 times and lost a fumble in the process. The Packers were able to find success in running the offense through running back AJ Dillon. Dillon scored the only points for the Packers and he had 45 rushing yards and 5 receptions for 46 receiving yards. Headed into this game, the Packers should feel confident as Rodgers has an overall 22-5 record against the Bears in games that he has started.
The Packers are massive favorites in this game and rightfully so. This team is led by a hall of fame quarterback in Aaron Rodgers and should be able to bounce back against a team they have success against, at home. On top of that, the Packers defense is strong. Last week’s game will tell a different story but it is hard to expect a lot from them when the offense can’t stay out on the field. The Bears will be playing in more favorable weather conditions but it seems they are headed for a game that they really can’t dominate, given its history. Expect all eyes to be on Rodgers to see if he’s still able to “own” the Bears, even with his questionable offense.
