Chiefs Face Eagles In Historic Super Bowl LVII | Chiefs vs Eagles | OSB

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles

By Sam Batz

chiefs vs eagles

Super Bowl LVII is just a few days away, and the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for what should be an excellent matchup. The Super Bowl officially kicks off on Sunday, Feb. 12th in Glendale, Arizona’s State Farm Stadium, and there are many aspects, records, and milestones that make this Super Bowl special. For example, it will be the first time in NFL history that two black starting quarterbacks (Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Eagles QB Jalen Hurts) face each other in a Super Bowl, a highly important and influential milestone. Additionally, Mahomes and Hurts are the two youngest quarterbacks, with a combined age of 51, to face off in Super Bowl history. It is the first Super Bowl to pit two brothers (Chiefs TE Travis Kelce and Eagles C Jason Kelce) against each other, and the first Super Bowl since 2017 to feature both AFC and NFC No. 1 seeds. Moreover, it is the first time the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles have faced each other in a Super Bowl in franchise history. The list of special moments and landmark achievements goes on, but at the end of the day, this game is about crowning this year’s NFL champions and we couldn’t have asked for a more compelling matchup.

The Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are 16-3, including the playoffs, on the season and are making their third Super Bowl appearance in the last four years. The Chiefs domination of the AFC has been impressive. They are on a five-season streak of winning 12+ games and have been to at least the Conference Championship five-consecutive years. During the regular season, Kansas City led the NFL in points per game (29.2), total yards (7,032), yards per game (413.6), and passing yards per game (297.8). The Chiefs now face their biggest test after a dominant season as they seek their third Super Bowl win in franchise history.

The Eagles are also 16-3 on the year, and were the last undefeated team standing during the regular season. Philadelphia went 8-0 before losing their first game, and with Jalen Hurts as quarterback, are 16-1, including playoffs. They were the first team to clinch a spot in the playoffs, and have cruised past both of their opponents in the Divisional Round (Eagles 38-Giants 7) and Conference Championship (Eagles 31-49ers 7) games. During the regular season, Philadelphia was third in points per game (28.1), second in total yards (6,614), and led the league in sacks (70). This was the Eagles best season since winning the Super Bowl in 2018, and on Sunday, Philadelphia looks for their second Super Bowl trophy in franchise history.

Football is the ultimate team sport, but the attention being given to the quarterbacks on either side is well deserved. Patricks Mahomes and Jalen Hurts are arguably this year’s best players. They are each in the running for the regular season MVP award, and have led their teams to this year’s Super Bowl. Mahomes and Hurts are tremendously talented, and on Sunday, will face each other for the first time ever.

Prediction

I like the Philadelphia Eagles in this one. Jalen Hurts, and the Eagles rushing attack, have been potent weapons all season. They have had tremendous success, both rushing and passing, because of their impenetrable offensive line. The Chiefs were second in sacks this year with 55, but against this Eagles O-line, I don’t anticipate them getting to Hurts very often. Furthermore, the Eagles have dominated this postseason. They are averaging 34.5 points and have only given up 2 touchdowns through 2 games. The Chiefs are a great team, and this will certainly be an incredible matchup, but in the end, I predict the Eagles come out on top as this year’s Super Bowl champions.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles Moneyline and the Under. Final Score 24-21.
