Los Angeles Chargers Seek Back-to-Back Road Wins Against Arizona Cardinals at Home

As we wrap up Week 7 of the NFL season, an exciting interconference matchup unfolds in the Valley of the Sun. The Los Angeles Chargers visit the Arizona Cardinals for a pivotal Monday Night Football clash. The Chargers arrive fresh off a 23-16 victory over the Denver Broncos, where they covered the spread as three-point favorites. In contrast, the Cardinals suffered a disappointing 34-13 defeat against the Green Bay Packers, failing to cover the 5.5-point spread as underdogs. Historically, the Chargers lead the all-time series 11-4 and have triumphed in their last two encounters, including a narrow 25-24 win in the most recent matchup on November 27, 2022.

Chargers Aim for Consecutive Road Victory

After a two-game skid, the Chargers bounced back impressively against the Broncos, improving their season record to 3-2 and solidifying their position as second in the AFC West, just two games behind the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. Los Angeles took control early against Denver, establishing a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, extending it to 20-0 by halftime, and maintaining a commanding 23-0 advantage through three quarters. Although they conceded 16 points in the fourth quarter, the Chargers secured the win with solid performance metrics: they outgained Denver in total offense 350-316, achieved 22 first downs compared to Denver’s 17, and dominated time of possession 37:23 to 22:37, while forcing two turnovers.

Despite their recent success, the Chargers rank 29th in passing offense, averaging just 153.2 yards per game, but they excel in the run game, sitting 10th with 127.8 rushing yards per contest. They also struggle to find the end zone, ranked 26th in scoring offense with an average of 18.2 points per game. On the defensive side, however, they shine, holding the top spot by allowing only 13.2 points per contest.

Quarterback Justin Herbert has completed 80 of 125 passes for 815 yards, with six touchdowns and only one interception, though he has been sacked nine times. He has also added 26 rushing yards. J.K. Dobbins leads the rushing attack with 81 carries for 438 yards and three touchdowns, while rookie Ladd McConkey is the top receiving target with 19 catches for 210 yards and two touchdowns.

Cardinals Looking to Rebound at Home

The Arizona Cardinals seek to bounce back after a rough outing against the Green Bay Packers, which dropped their record to 2-4 and placed them third in the competitive NFC West. After a surprising victory against the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona was unable to build momentum and fell behind early against Green Bay, trailing 7-0 after the first quarter and 24-0 late in the first half. Although the Cardinals managed to cut the deficit to 24-10 at halftime, they failed to score for the remaining 24 minutes of the game. They were outgained 437-303 in total offense and struggled to convert first downs, losing that battle 27-16.

On offense, the Cardinals rank 24th in the league in passing yards, averaging 187 per game, but they boast the 7th best rushing attack, averaging 145.2 yards per game. With an average of 22.2 points per game, they sit 17th in scoring offense, while their defense struggles, allowing an average of 27.2 points per game, which ranks 27th in the league.

Kyler Murray has thrown for 1,186 yards, completing 116 of 170 passes with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Additionally, he is a dual threat, contributing 261 rushing yards and a touchdown. Running back James Conner leads the ground game with 90 carries for 403 yards and three touchdowns. In the receiving corps, tight end Trey McBride has emerged as a reliable target with 28 receptions for 271 yards, while other key contributors include Michael Wilson and Marvin Harrison Jr., who have combined for over 500 receiving yards.

Matt Prater remains perfect in extra-point attempts (10 for 10) and has made six of six field goals with a long of 57 yards this season.

Conclusion

As the Los Angeles Chargers and Arizona Cardinals prepare for this critical Monday Night Football showdown, both teams have plenty at stake. The Chargers are looking to secure their second consecutive road victory, while the Cardinals are eager to turn their fortunes around on home turf.
