Ok, let’s get to our Carolina vs Houston Picks.
While it’s very strange to see a team like Carolina laying over a touchdown on the road, there’s a reason for it as the Texans will be without starting QB Tyrod Taylor, who was injured in last week’s game at Cleveland and is going to be out for at least 4 weeks. So, with DeShaun Watson still sidelined because of all of his legal issues, the Texans are going to have to start rookie Davis Mills against a Carolina defense that has recorded 8 sacks in the first two weeks.
The Panthers, meanwhile, are off to a 2-0 start, including an impressive dominating performance over New Orleans last week as a field goal underdog. NY Jets-cast off Sam Darnold is playing the best he ever has in his career at QB for the Panthers and running back Christian McCaffrey is healthy again and is always a threat to take it the distance.
Having said all of that, let’s not get carried away. We really think the Panthers are a bit overrated and this line is simply too high. Think about it. Just two weeks ago, the Panthers were a 3.5 point favorite at home against the Jets. Then last week they beat a Saints team that has been displaced for close to a month due to the Hurricane and saw their coaching staff get ravaged by COVID. Now on a short week the Panthers are laying 8 points on the road to Houston??
This is a Carolina team that is just 2-6 against the spread the last eight games they have been the favorite and they haven’t been this big of a road favorite since the 2015 season when they went 15-1 and went to the Super Bowl.
Meanwhile, the Houston Texans are 2-0 against the spread this season. They surprised everyone and easily defeated the Jags as a home dog in Week 1 and then last week at Cleveland they lost by only 10 points and probably would have had a chance to win that game late if Tyrod Taylor didn’t get hurt.
We often talk about value on our videos and sometimes in the NFL it pays to be contrary. This number is way too high, so for our Carolina vs Houston NFL picks we’ll take the points with the home dog Texans.
