The New England Patriots will travel to Sate Farm Stadium to take on the Arizona Cardinals for Monday Night Football (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN). Both teams are looking to get back in the win column as both have lost their last two games. Patriots lost last week at home against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football 24-10 as they could not get anything going on offense after Mac Jones connected with Marcus Jones on a 48-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. New England did not find the endzone again after that. The Cardinals are coming off a bye. Before that, they lost in a nail biter against the Los Angeles Chargers, where the Chargers scored with 15 seconds left in the game and converted the two-point conversion to win the game 25-24.

New England’s offense under OC Matt Patricia has struggled all season. Patriots rank 20th in the NFL in scoring offense on the season averaging 20.8 points a game. Also, the Patriots rank 20th in passing per game (214) and 23rd in rushing yards per game (104.9). Mac Jones and the passing game struggled last week as he completed 22 of his 36 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. Wide Receiver Jakobi Meyers leads the team in receiving yards with 593 yards. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson leads the team in reception with 56. While the Patriots offense has struggled their defense has stepped up. New England’s defense ranks seventh in the NFL in opponent points per game, only allowing teams to score an average of 18.8 points on the season. They also rank seventh in takeaways per game averaging 1.6 turnovers a game. Linebacker Matthew Judon has led the defense, as he has 13 sacks on the season, which ranks second in the NFL.

Coming off a bye the Cardinals are looking for a fresh start, as they have struggled so far this season with a record of 4-8. Kliff Kingsbury would love nothing more than a win to save his coaching job as there has been criticism about him and the GM Steve Keim. Arizona’s offense has been average at best this year ranking 16th in the NFL in points per game on the season averaging 22 points. Kyler Murray this year has had a quiet season so far as he has 14 touchdown passes and 7 interceptions. The Cardinals have been plagued on offense with guys missing games and being injured this year. Deandre Hopkins missed the first six games of season due to a PED suspension. They have also gone games this season missing either Kyler Murray, James Conner, Marquise Brown, and Rondale Moore. Lucky for them though everyone should be healthy and ready to play in this game, except for Rondale Moore who will be sidelined once more due to a groin injury. The real problem for Arizona has been their defense as they rank 31st in the NFL in opponent per game, letting teams score an average of 26.8 points on the season. The Cardinal’s secondary has especially struggled ranking 24th in the NFL in opponent passing per game as they teams throw for an average of 245.4 yards a game.

Things to look for

How will Kyler Murray and company fare against an elite Patriot’s defense?

Arizona Cardinals, Kyler Murray agree to new contract extension through the 2028 season

Kyler Murray will need to have a big game against this New England defense. The last time the Cardinals played an elite defense was the 49ers where they only scored 10 points. Look for Murray to go to DeAndre Hopkins a lot as he had a big game last time the Cardinals played hauling in 4 receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Can Mac Jones bounce back this week against a struggling Cardinals secondary?

Mac Jones has request for Patriots' coaching staff after loss to Bills

Mac Jones struggled to get anything going in the air last week as his team hasn’t found the endzone in the last three quarters they have played. This week Jones will look to change that as he has shared the ball nicely this year giving all his receivers a great share of looks. Look for the receivers to get a lot of looks this game and even running back Rhamondre Stevenson out of the backfield.

Prediction

New England bounces back offensively from last week and find ways to score through the air against this struggling Arizona secondary. Rhamondre Stevenson has a big game through the ground and the air as he carries the Patriots offense. Mac Jones looks impressive and throws for a couple of touchdowns. Kyler Murray will not be able to escape and deal with the defensive pressure of the Patriots. Cardinals score twice as DeAndre Hopkins has another big game, but ultimately fall short as the Patriots defense becomes too much for them.

Prediction: Patriots 24, Cardinals 14. New England covers the spread (-2).
