Ok, let’s get to our Patriots vs Bills expert picks.
Tonight’s Monday Night Football match-up is a huge AFC game that could have major playoff implications as the surging Patriots head to Buffalo. After a sluggish start to the season, Bill Belichick has his New England team playing as well as any team in the NFL right now. The Pats have won six games in a row to improve to 8-4 and a win tonight on the road would drop the Bills to 7-5 and put New England in the driver’s seat to take back the AFC East crown from Buffalo.
Both of these teams have been leaning on their defense. New England has held opponents to 13 points or less in five out of six games and has the Number 1 scoring defense in the league, while Buffalo ranks first in the league in total yards allowed and is second in points allowed.
So — combine that with a weather forecast that is calling for a cold and windy night in Buffalo — you can see why the total in this game has dropped from an opener of 46 all they way down to 41 and we think this is way too much of an overreaction and we’re going to play over the 41 points.
Yes, these two defenses have put up some great numbers, but according to our data, Buffalo has faced the easiest schedule of opposing offenses in the NFL this season and New England has faced the fourth-easiest schedule of offenses, so neither defense has really been tested, especially in recent weeks.
And let’s not forget that we have two offenses tonight that are ranked in the Top 7 in scoring and the Top 4 in points per play. You have to go back a stretch of 20 games to find a Buffalo game that had a total of 41 points or less and that was ironically when they played the Pats in Week 8 last year and it went over the total. Also, over the last two seasons, Buffalo home games have averaged 51 points per game.
Despite the Pats great numbers on defense, the team has still managed to go over the total in six out of eight games and in seven out of nine road games — and this is only the second game all season where they have had a game with a total of less than 42 points.
The bottom line here is that in this day in age of the NFL, a total of 41 points is simply too low for a game featuring two Top 10 offenses with two quarterbacks playing at an elite level, despite the bad weather.
We always talk about value on these videos and this is a great value play. Take the over in Monday Night Football!
