For those of you not aware of what a teaser bet is, please allow me to first explain how it works, before we get into our analysis and most optimal teaser option for Super Bowl LVI.
The most common teaser is a two-team, six-point football teaser that allows you to take six extra points on a pointspread or total, but both teams must cover these adjusted spreads for the teaser to cash.
There are also teasers where you can use more teams and get more points, but the only teaser bet we would ever recommend is the two-team, six-point NFL teaser. Teasers are also available in college football and basketball, but we don’t suggest using them in those sports because there is so much more variance than compared to the NFL.
Of course, the sportsbooks don’t give you these extra points for free. You have to pay a price. Oftentimes, the juice on these teaser bets is -120 or even -130 and some books even go as far as saying ties lose, so be aware of what the house rules are at your sportsbook.
A general rule I typically employ for teasers is to always try to tease through the 3 AND the 7, since those are two most key numbers in the NFL. Since the Cincinnati vs LA Rams Super Bowl pointspread is sitting at 4, that won’t be possible.
Another good teaser rule to follow is to never tease through a Zero since it’s a “dead number.” So having said that, the best option for a teaser in the Super Bowl would be to take the Bengals and tease it up from 4 to 10 points.
