America’s Team in Trouble
The Dallas Cowboys host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 18th at 4:25 pm. This will be the second game both of these teams play this season. This will also be the first time in two years that these teams play against each other. The last time they played in 2020, the Cowboys won comfortably on the road by a final score of 30-7. Had this game been played last week, the expectations of the game would have been more close, but after an injury to Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, it’s hard to imagine Dallas having a chance. The odds for this game are currently set at -345 Bengals, +270 Cowboys, and the over/under is 41.5 according to Caesars Casino & Sportsbook. New users will receive a Risk-Free Bet of up to $1250 on their first wager. When you make your first bet, if it loses, it’s on the house as Caesars will refund any losing wagers in full (up to $1250 in the form of a single-use bonus credit Plus Caesar’s is adding 1,000 Reward Credits and 1,000 Tier Credits). The Cincinnati Bengals head into Dallas with a record of 0-1, after a crazy week 1 game at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They lost by a final score of 23-20 in an overtime thriller. Cincinnati scored a potential game-winning touchdown with 2 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase connected for a touchdown. For the extra point kick, Steelers safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick made the play of the game by blocking the kick. The Bengals offense didn’t have a great outing. If the Steelers were a better offensive team, the score of this game could have turned ugly. The Bengals committed 5 turnovers and all of them belonged to Burrow. On the day, Burrow threw for 338 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also threw 4 interceptions, lost 1 fumble, and got sacked 7 times. What’s crazy is that even after committing 5 turnovers, the Bengals still had 432 yards of total offense, which was about 200 more than the Steelers. Aside from Burrow, Chase and Joe Mixon helped out the offense with their performances. Chase had 10 receptions for 129 yards and Mixon rushed for 82 yards and caught 7 passes for 63 yards. Unfortunately for the Bengals in that game, they lost wide receiver Tee Higgins early on to a concussion. His presence might have helped them win that game but that will have to wait until they play again later this season. Headed into this game against the Cowboys, the Bengals are clear favorites and Higgins is questionable to play.
The Dallas Cowboys have played 1 game and are already in jeopardy of not making the playoffs. Last week in their home opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers they lost by a final score of 19-3. Late in the fourth quarter, Prescott got injured after he jammed his hand while throwing a pass. At first, it was thought to be a jammed finger but after further tests and X-rays, it was determined that he fractured his thumb and will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks. Without Prescott, the Cowboys offense will run through Cooper Rush. Definitely not a position you want to be in after week 1. The overall offense struggled in this game against the Buccaneers but the defensive linebacker Micah Parsons was able to have a notable performance as he recorded 2 sacks and was a menace for the Buccaneers offensive line. Unfortunately for Parson, he was playing against Brady and his offense was going against a stellar defense. The only advantage the Cowboys have headed into this game is that they’re at home and they have won their last 4 matchups.
I think the Dallas Cowboys will really struggle in this game as they will be without Prescott and playing a Bengals team that looks to be ready to win their first game. Last week they lost by 16 when they had Prescott. The Bengals, like the Buccanneers, have a great offense and strong defense. Expect the Cowboys to struggle to move the ball in this one. For the Bengals, they just need to focus on ball security and limiting the number of times Burrow is sacked.
For our expert pick, take the Bengals -7.
