Ok, let’s get to our Virginia Tech vs Boston College Football Picks.
This is an ACC match-up between two teams that started off the season with great promise, but have recently fallen on hard times and as a result, both of these teams are in desperate need of a win to become bowl eligible.
Virginia Tech opened the season by winning three of their first four games, but then dropped three in a row and now they come into The Heights at Boston College with a 4-4 record.
Meanwhile, the BC Eagles seem to have run out of gas. After starting the season 4-0 and then nearly pulling off an outright upset at Clemson at the beginning of October, BC has now lost four games in a row and they also enter tonight’s game with a 4-4 record.
The Eagles are down to their third-string QB. Starter Phil Jurkovec was lost with a season-ending injury in Week 3 and his replacement, Dennis Grosel, has really struggled, forcing the team to turn to freshman Emmett Morehead to make the start tonight. During their four-game losing skid, BC has averaged just 10 points per game and hasn’t scored more than 14 points in a game since Sept. 25. As much as we’d like to go against BC in this spot, we can’t ignore the fact that the Eagles are 10-5 ATS in their last 15 as a home underdog and the Hokies have been a money-eater as an ACC road chalk, going 4-11 ATS.
So, instead of taking a side in this game, we’re going to bet under 47.
Not only do both of these teams rank near the very bottom of the ACC in offensive plays per game, but the Eagles rank 109th in the country in yards per play on offense and the Hokies rank 96th. BC has also gone under in 4 games in a row — and will be even more conservative tonight with a freshman QB getting the start — while Virginia Tech is 8-2 to the under in their last 10 games overall. Put it all together and this appears to be a game dominated by the defenses so we are going to under the total of 47.5 points.
