OK, let’s get to our Alamo Bowl Selection.

Tonight’s game from San Antonio features two teams playing with interim head coaches. Former Oklahoma head coach bailed on the Sooners to take the Southern Cal job while Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal bolted to Florida to take over the Miami Hurricanes program. But while both teams will be without their head coach, the Sooners have a dramatic edge when it comes to the two interim head coaches’ bowl experience as their former head coach Bob Stoops will be coaching the game. Stoops previously coached Oklahoma for 18 seasons, including a National Championship in 2002 and this will be the 19th time he has led a team into a bowl game, which is 19 more than Bryan McClendon, the Ducks’ wide receivers coach who is taking over on a temporary basis for Cristobal.

This experience gives Oklahoma a HUGE edge tonight as Stoops knows how to prepare a team for all of the distractions and extended preparation time that comes with playing in a college bowl game.

On top of that, this is a great fundamental match-up for the Sooners, whose major weakness this season has been defending the pass in the pass-happy Big 12, but the Ducks are a run-first offense and QB Anthony Brown will not be able to take advantage of that weakness. And when Brown does hand the ball off, Oregon will be running into a Sooners defense that ranks 28th in the country in rushing yards allowed.

With the huge edge in preparation and on the sideline, combined with the advantage from and Xs and Os standpoint, we think this number is too short so for our Alamo Bowl Best Bet, let’s lay the 7 points with Oklahoma in a game we see them jumping out to a lead and then sitting on a Ducks offense that is not built to come from behind.
