all right, Tommy D back here with the bet the edge. This is all Wednesday podcast February 2. I want to welcome everyone on board here. We got a lot to talk about. We’re going to be looking at some NBA games for Wednesday night some college basketball. We’re going to touch upon what’s going on with the Superbowl right now we know the teams that are obviously in the Superbowl. They’re all lined out right now. And we got some breaking news with Tom Brady. But let me introduce my two co hosts. You’ve seen these guys before? I’m sure maybe not if you’re a new, a new viewer. I got Scott Matthews here from SM pics. Scott. How are we doing?

Alright, let’s start off with what you know everyone’s talking about right now. Tom Brady officially retired. You know, a couple of days ago, Adam Sheckler, ESPN was the first to put it out. 

Then people say well, not necessarily not so quick. Even Brady came out and said he’s not 100% Sure. Today it’s official. I’m not surprised. I think he was getting a lot of pressure from his family life. He has young kids is 44. Yeah, the guy’s in great shape. But 44-year-old man playing against 24-year-olds, I think he’s going out at the perfect time. I mean, there’s probably no one ever that’s been like him in the league who may not see a guy like that for another 2025 years. If ever. Scott, I’m gonna let you start off. What are your thoughts here?

 

Here’s a guy that’s 44. But he may win MVP this year. It’s that tight. They’re saying that because a lot of people you know with Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers, I told you a long time ago. Well, one-two in that race for MVP. And that’s probably what it’s gonna come down to. Tom Brady could win MVP, believe it or not at age 44 thrown over 5300 yards. This guy just made a commitment like no one else ever made to their craft. It is what it is. I mean, the guy is, you know, he just did it at a level way above the rest of them. And he deserves everything. 22 year Korea, Seven Super Bowls. 10 Super Bowls, seven victories? 10 Total Super Bowls, 14 divisional titles? I mean, what more can you say? I mean, I could be on here talking about this guy probably until five weeks from now.

 

And we’ll be talking about him for years to come without a doubt. But you know, he probably said once in a lifetime player. He’s done everything. probably time to exit the side stage gracefully. But you know, I’m sure a lot will come out dry. What’s your take?

 

I mean, he’s tortured my team for 20 years. So I’m kind of happy about it. But um, I will acknowledge that he is the greatest of all time.

 

I mean, one thing I saw I mean, I’m a big guy on Twitter and you know, Twitter. You never know exactly. Who’s putting this stuff out. But seems like there’s no love between him and the Patriots. He didn’t mention them.

 

Why? I disagree with that because Bob Kraft loves Tom Brady like a Sunday.

 

I think it might be more Bella check. Yeah. Check it see Robert Kraft do a tweet just an hour ago, writing a whole very emotional thing about Tom Brady.

 

Right. He didn’t want Brady to go and he would have found every way to keep them. So obviously there was bucking heads obviously with Bella check.

 

I think I think there was bad blood between him and Bella’s check. It seems I don’t think Bella check gave him the respect as much. I guess that’ll come out in time. But yeah, listen, any errors over? It’s happened before in the NFL. It’s happened in other sports. I mean, when Mickey Mantle retired and baseball. I mean, we’re going back many years. Yeah. I mean, people thought baseball wouldn’t be the same. They’ll be another Brady somewhere down the road. There’ll be someone that rises up.

 

There are a lot of young talented quarterbacks.

 

I mean, let’s talk about the guy in Cincinnati right now Joe Barro, he has the makings of being a total superstar. Let’s see if he could pull off the Super Bowl if he does that. Then his you know, his stuff obviously goes up. But yeah, there’s no doubt about it. He’s done a lot for football. 22 years, and you can’t play forever. So you know, there’s just so much you could really say about this he’s gonna retire a multi millionaire anything he gets into. 

I mean, the guy when everything he touches turns to gold, he might get into broadcasting I’m sure he’ll get into something that’s extremely lucrative sewing, I mean, he that guy is in demand no matter what, what he does

 

open a new clothing company. So I’m sure he’s going to be very involved with that. He’s got a production company, I believe that partners with stray hand, Michael stray hand and some production company with others. You know, I’m not worried about Tom Brady moving into his second career outside of football, it’s going to be a big adjustment for him. Because don’t forget the commitment this guy made to this game. I mean, that, you guys, we all look at it, like, oh, we see the game. And that’s a game over they play the following week, this guy was seven days a week hardcore all year long, keeping that commitment to shaping and staying healthy and all these things. 

So it’s very difficult now that just take totally stop that, you know, after all these commitments he’s made for all these years to be to the level that you know, he got to so that’s going to be a difficult process. Think about the process that he did to get to where he’s at. And now you just shut it kind of down. That’s gonna be interesting.

 

Well, it’s gonna be potted history books, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

 

Anyone will hit those numbers he hit though, probably not.

 

That there’s certain things that happen every generation, we can go back and look at other teams and other situations and sports but you know, you gotta wish the guy luck. He’s done a lot for football in general. All right. We got a big game next Sunday guys Super Bowl 56. In LA, California. We’re going to be doing some broadcasting from Los Angeles. So stay tuned for all that. The early number right now the Rams if I’m not mistaken, opened up a three and a half. It’s up the for the total look like it’s dropped from 51 to 48. I mean, listen, you got two teams that weren’t really predicted to be there. 

They’re there now. Are they the two best choices? I don’t know. That playing great ball right now. Personally, I like the momentum of Cincinnati. Going into this game getting getting two points, but we’re going to talk about that as we get closer. Any thoughts guys? Dre? What’s your thoughts on the totals gone down? And you What are you thinking? Yeah,

 

I’m just thinking, giving Joe burrow four points that the way he’s playing right now. That’s kind of crazy. I do think as of right now the rams are gonna we’re gonna pull this one out. But I think four points is too much.

 

The way these games have been coming down the last minute I have to agree this guy borrow can explode. I mean, the Rams came back big time and won that game. So it’s gonna be a great game. I’m sure the line might move between now and then. Let’s let’s keep a close eye on we’re going to be talking about this on our Friday show. And of course next week, it’s all basically going to be super bowl so we’ll have a lot of good stuff lined up. Alright, let’s look at a couple of NBA games on Wednesday.

Alright, let’s, let’s let’s start with the first NBA game for Wednesday. What we’re looking at Charlotte Boston. Who wants to start off with that one? What do you think I shot I mean, well, what do you

 

think my two cents in on this one? Charlotte Hornets? You know, obviously a winning record 28 and 23. At this point, these two teams played recently in Boston it was less than about 1012 days whatever it was less than a couple weeks ago. Obviously Charlotte happen to win that game. 111 102 But I see a big change with Boston right now. 

I think that this is the time that they can take off a little bit and start winning some ballgames. They blew it blew the shit out of the heat the other night. I mean, just crushed them. They won by, I think 30 Last night against the Miami Heat. And you know, they’ve won the last couple of games in a row that getting players back, they had a lot of guys in and out of the lineup. They weren’t really gelling as a unit because they didn’t have enough time together to really play. I think there’s going to be a factor in this game. I don’t have the exact line on this game. But I think Boston is going to handle this game very nicely. 

I think they’re going to pay back is going to come on this one. And I think the way the Celtics apply in a coming off that big win with the heat, they’re energized a little bit. It’s going to be tough to go back into Boston, Charlotte win in the last game, trying to you know, come back in there and beat him again. Because I think the Celtics have made that little turn in the lineup, and they’re all gelling really well, Tatum’s hitting shots, browns, hitting shots, smart hitting shots, you know, their role. Other players coming off the bench have been doing really well roughly, I think this is where Boston can make that little turn and start going on a little run. You know, when in five, six games in a row possibly or you know, when an eight out of 10 or nine out of 11 games and get themselves creeping themselves back up.

 Charlotte, I think is playing a little bit above themselves. But I think Boston gets the job done. I take the Celtics in this game guys, that I think the line on this game is probably going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of about four, four and a half in favor of Boston. I don’t have an early indication maybe trade those on the number of this game. But I’m thinking Boston if I can keep this line and buy it down to like three, three and a half. I jump on Boston in this game at home for a nice payback when

 

Yeah, Sky you’re right on the money there. It’s an opening lines four and a half five. Yeah. Oh for me, I Boston is playing really well. Right now. I think they’ve won for the last five, two in a row. But I’m going to take the over in this game. With all these stars. I mean, we’ve got Terry Rozier Terry Rozier plays incredible when he plays his former team, the Celtics we saw it last last last game where he really carried the the scoring and still win in in Boston on over unders to 23 right now. With the Melo MILES BRIDGES you got and then you have Tatum, who’s playing really well right now. And Jalen brown on the other side.

 I just really liked over here, Boston over there over there last are over those last four wins, and they won for the last five, they’re averaging over 118 points per game. So and we know the Hornets can explode offensively at any point they scored 158 points against the Pacers the other night. And excuse me, it was a high scoring game for an NBA team this season. So I’m going to take the over to 23 here. You know,

 

it’s the thing that the only thing that bothers me about the Celtics it like a Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde. He might one night come out and go wow, the Celtics are really, really playing well. Now they look like they’re ready to take off. And then they come like come out the next game. And they played like, terrible. So I just think though, beating a rivalry, like the heat the way they did so convincingly and seeing how these players started gelling and will, and you know the payback of Charlotte winning the last time they were in there. That’s my, my logic and the number on the game is right. It’s definitely a right number for an app. So that’s I think Boston is the right side, as like I mentioned earlier. All right,

 

we got another game here a little more interesting Memphis and the Knicks. Now Memphis is playing some real good basketball 35 and 18 going into this game, the Knicks just shy on the 524 27 will go back to Dre. What do you think? Hit me Memphis note that’s going to be the favorite here. Yeah.

 

What? I’m seeing Memphis minus two and a half minus three here. I do think that’s that number. I just saw it. So I do think that number is kind of small. But I also want to take my main players into be the under, I just think that Memphis are coming off a really tough loss where John Moran played out of his mind, and they and they lost to the Sixers in trouble or overtime, sorry. And then we have the Knicks who are, I’m sorry, but no one on their team can score.

 I mean, they’re just, I mean, they’re completely underperforming expectations this season there. But the one thing they’re good at is defense. I believe they’re 10th in defensive efficiency, while Memphis is sixth in defensive efficiency. And then New York is all the way on the other side in terms of offensive efficiency and efficiency, they ranked 24th. So I do think that the under here is the right play. And if I can get it at two and a half, I would take Memphis here, especially with how John is playing right now.

 

Scott, what’s your take on this one?

 

I’m looking at this game totally different than Dre is altogether to be honest with you. I think this is the type of game that they’re sucking in big time is a trap line they use in jhamora You know, obviously as the anchor how great he’s playing how, you know, this team’s playing 18 games over 500 playing great on the road playing great against the spread that that. What’s the word I’m trying to say? Then they are really cheapening the Knicks potential in this game, in my opinion. I think if the Knicks are a small little dog at home in this game, I think the Knicks make a lot of noise in this game. I could see Memphis starting to Tailspin a little bit.

 They’ve been playing out of their minds this year, way, way over away over that what people thought they’d be at at this point in time, the Knicks have been playing obviously underperforming to this point time, people thought they you know, really were strong playoff candidate, and they would come up but the Knicks had a lot of issues with players in and out of the lineup, that starting to come, you know, back into play, that they you know, they getting pieces back to the puzzle, I think this is a major trap, they’re trying to suck you in. And if they make Mathis a one and a half, 2.22 and a half point in favor, even this game might go to pick them. 

Or it may I would be shocked if the line even flipped to the next minus one who didn’t know even knows. But I think the Knicks are alive dog in this game. I think they’re going to come out at home, they’re going to put a stance, they’re going to play tough defense, I think that’s going to affect Memphis after that tough game. They just came out against Philly, going into overtime and losing a tough game like that. So it’s psychologically with if the Knicks tighten up strong on the defense. I think they’ll cause turnovers. And I think they’ll take advantage of them. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the Knicks win this game by about six to 10 outright.

 

Wow, that’s a pretty bold prediction now, but

 

the numbers Tommy and tell you to be honest with you, the number on the game is a major trap. I mean, it’s so easy to grab Memphis and say oh, Memphis tune Africanus the next row, let’s let’s take Memphis all day. And the general public makes so many mistakes doing things like that with gays, I run from games like that, generally. But like I said, I’m making an opinion on the game because it’s part of the show. But looking at everything I look at and the numbers and the way the team suppliant I just feel the Knicks are gonna find a statement game against somebody. And this would be the perfect little statement game for them to get themselves back, you know, back in the win column.

 

Scott striker kind of making me rethink the two and a half there. But I still do like the on there because who’s gonna score on the next and the next you can score. They don’t have

 

the Knicks. I mean, like one time, they’ll come out and they’ll play a game against someone. They’ll go back and forth trading baskets.

 

They’re very, they’re very inconsistent. They’re inconsistent. Well, let’s see. Let’s see what happens. We could talk about this on on the Friday show. We got a college hoop game that popped up on the radar. There is an early line on this one, I’ll quote it. Villanova four point favorite against Marquette 134. A Dre. Let’s go back to you. Wildcats minus two four against Marquette. What do you think here?

 

Yeah, I think Mark ageing for home is a bit too much here. Especially with how they’ve been playing. They lost their last game to Providence by about by two points. But before that they’d won seven straight. Shaka smart has these guys playing really well. Um, Mark had already beat Villanova this season. So I just I don’t know why we have four points. I think this line should be closer to two, two and a half. Four points is a lot here. So I’m going to take more cats at home as that system continues to hit. Take my cat home plus four here.

 

Taking the home dog. Interesting. Scott, what’s your take on it?

 

Well, I got a I got a couple of variations on this game that make me really liked this game a lot. The first variation is Marquette was playing out of their minds recently, they won seven straight games in a row and they were beating teams very easily. They got into a tough battle obviously lost the last game I actually had the game that plus two and a half to three on Sunday and got the job done because they lost by two so I got it by the hook on that one to win it. Because I grabbed two and a half before the numbers jumped down. So that worked out I like filling over a lot in this game. Let me tell you why. I I just think right now Villanova is going like this. Marquette was going like that I think that loss absorbs a team a little bit. I could see them dropping a couple of games back to back I think they’ve played over their head. You know recently when in seven or I don’t know if that their caliber program is as good as a Villanova’s team. I think Villanova is a more consistent solid all around team than a Marquette and Villanova has been playing well. I’m looking at some numbers nine and one in the last 1073 against the spread. You know, obviously Marquette when they won the seven in a row they were covering those games, so they’re spread records eat to win their last 10 winning seven out of the last 10 games. Alright, but I just like I think the line on this game is gonna probably go to about to could even go a little higher actually, it’s gonna stay probably in the neighborhood of the three and a half the four and a half range I would buy that number down no matter what I would get it down to minus three, three and a half.

 I would take Villanova in this game guys because I just feel right now that you start seeing some of these teams that like got hot and they were, you know, playing out of their minds they lose they lose that one game they drop. They drop that intensity like of winning seven in a row coming in like really hot they lose that one they could back up a little bit and I think Villanova is the perfect team that could shut up a team like Marquette down because they can get you on both sides with their offense and the defense so I think Villanova’s the right side of this game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they win this game by a wide margin. I think they’re gonna win this game my opinion. I think they’ll win by eight to 12 points. Villanova. If they’re right, they win it by double digits.

 

All right on the road, you’re gonna lay you’re gonna lay the favorite

 

Madison a game like this to be I know, it’s tough to play on the road. But I just think that right, I think that loss will be a little setback for Marquette. I wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped the next couple of games. And then they could come back obviously, you know, play you know 70% caliber basketball when it’s seven, the next 10 But I don’t think they they’re as strong as Villanova is I think Villanova is a little bit a little on the rate and more so, and Marquette has been overrated because of this lead the way they played the last seven or eight games. So I think Villanova puts a statement in this game goes on the road shows the moose boss and gets the job done.

 

Alright, it’s the time at a part of the show where we’re going to put out a best bet doesn’t have to be a game that we spoke about. It could be any game on the board. We’re going to throw out a parlay. We have a lot of people that like parlays and then Dre is going to do a prop so I’ll start with you Scott. Wednesday night, who’s your best bet could be a game we spoke about could be a different game.

 

Well, I’ll tell you what I’m going to stick with the Celtics is my best bet on the show because I think that that I see the change with the Celtics the way they’re playing right now. I really liked the way they came off that game against the heat the other night. I liked the game prior to that. I think Charlotte you know is gonna have a tough, tough matchup battle with the Celtics if these guys are on if Tatum’s on and browns on its smarts on, I don’t know if Charlotte can match up with that firepower. And I think the Celtics at home are going to try to make a statement game and win the game pretty strongly. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they come out strong and they want to just like win this game by double digits. So I like the Celtics as my best bet. I think they get the job done. They cover this number, and I probably get this number down to three and a half guys. I’m a numbers guy look for value. What makes sense to me. So I would take Boston. I back up the truck slowly. Not as much as I said, the backup the truck on the 49 is the other day. But I would definitely

We had a great weekend. We had the teaser games, the whole nine yards, hit them off. So hopefully everyone out there did well with us. And I’m glad you guys did well. So let’s hope we can do well again on this show for you and give you some good advice and put you in the right direction.

I’m gonna stick in that game too. I’m gonna take the overnight game. I just think there’s too much too much Star Power for that game to go under, especially with how the Hornets have been scoring lately without 158 against Indiana so I’m going to take the overnight game.

Let’s let’s throw out a Paul A we don’t recommend Paul A’s but we have viewers that like them. Scott, throw out a Paul a Wednesday night. Once again,

 

a lot of poly guy Tommy I really, I gave I gave really what I feel best about to be honest, I’m not really a Polish guy. I’m more of a straight guy as far as plays. So I really the only thing I really have if they want to tie up those games we mentioned. But I would play that guy about as minimal as minimal could be because I look at it like this. If I give out three games on the show, and I go to win one. And you play each game for the same amount.

 That’s a profitable evening. If I gave you three games and you Paulie them, and I went two out of three, you lose money. So what why? Why do that? Do you know what I mean? I’d rather have a shot to make people happy. Then, you know, put them in a position where I go 66% wins and they lose money on the night. So I don’t have a Paulie. I know Dre likes Polly’s and things like that, but I rather use them just to play the plays I gave out on the show. I saw

 

some guy hit a 500,000 Paul $5,000 and I don’t know what the hell he had or

 

how many. He gets the scores of both of the games. Crazy, really. He had cancer. He had Kansas City losing 2724 and the rest Winning 2017

I could see that because I even called on my on the show that I thought both games were gonna be very close game so

yeah, I’ll give you my parlay with my prop here. So, um, I it’s gonna be that that Boston over is my best play and then we’ll parlay that with Nicola Yogesh. I’m going to take his over in points, rebounds and assists. The nuggets are playing really well. They’ve won five in a row. They weren’t at their last 10 Yogesh is playing out of his mind right now. They just beat the box. Yoke, which is pushing for MVP right now, right now in my opinion, Tim and Yanis and unburied obviously, but I think that Yogesh right now you the numbers not out, but it’s usually between 46 and 48 points, rebounds and assists. And I’m going to take the over two games Oh, he had 2913 and 10 and hit it easily. Last game, it was a blowout. So he really sat most of the game, but I’m going to take yours over and points rebounds, assists, especially with his MVP push.

Um, I mean that’s that’s still well this weekend. I’m looking forward to the Super Bowl looking forward to see the drops Yeah, um, but I I will say now I think Stafford is gonna pull it out.
