Illinois Vs Maryland Picks.
The visiting Terrapins are 2-0 and have covered the spread in both of those games, including a very impressive 30-24 win in the season opener over West Virginia as a 3 point underdog. But going on the road in the Big 10 in a Friday night game and laying over a touchdown may be a little bit too much to ask of this team.
In fact, Maryland is 0-6 against the spread the last six times it has been dubbed a road chalk of 11 points or less and they have only covered one of their last 10 games when they are coming off back to back wins.
On the other side of the ball we have an Illinois team that started the season with an upset win over Nebraska as a 7 point dog, but since then things have gone sideways for the Illini, who lost outright to Texas San Antonio as a 4 point favorite and then last week they got slaughtered by Virginia, 42-14, as a 10-point favorite.
The good news for Illinois is that it was announced on Monday that Brandon Peters will return to start at quarterback this week after he injured his non-throwing shoulder in that season opening win against Nebraska. This is huge for the Illini as Peters is a three-year starter and one of the leaders of this team so his return will give them a big boost.
The Illini have covered three of their last four as a single-digit home dog and we think this line is a little bit inflated for a Maryland team that has proven it doesn’t like to lay points on the road.
