OK, let’s get to our Texas Bowl betting tips.
All of the news leading up to tonight’s game has been about the LSU Tigers and none of it has been good. The Tigers have just 45 scholarship players on the depth chart for this game and the coaching staff is in disarray as the team hired Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly as its new head coach, but he will not be on the sideline tonight and, as a result, offensive line coach Brad Davis is serving as interim head coach. It’s unknown who will be at QB for LSU, but it may very well be a converted wide receiver. In addition, LSU’s leading rusher Ty Davis-Price has opted out. With all of the chaos, LSU has gone from a 2.5-point favorite in this game to a 7-point dog, and for good reason. So, where we find value here is on the total, which hasn’t moved much from the opening number, despite the fact that the LSU offense is going to be extremely limited.
What’s more, on the other side of the ball, Kansas State has also had some coaching turmoil on the offensive staff as head coach Chris Klieman fired his offensive coordinator, Courtney Messinghan, and tight ends coach Jason Ray, leaving quarterbacks coach Collin Klein to serve as OC for this game. While LSU will certainly be playing with a thin roster, this is still a team with a ton of talent that was playing its best defense of the season down the stretch. Since a bye week in early November, LSU held Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana-Monroe and Texas A&M to an average of 9 fewer points per game than it did to its previous eight opponents, helping the Tigers go under in four of their last five games of the season.
Kansas State also went 5-1 to the under in its last six games and has gone under in 16 of its last 21 games when listed as the favorite.
Put it all together and we like tonight’s Texas Bowl to go under the total of 47.5.
